Okay, so if I learned anything in the last few months on this project, it's that playing bass/guitar is much easier then painting one! I can be picky and quite the pain in the rear perfectionist, so let me say THANK YOU to my son Jordan for putting up with me and completing an awesome paint job on my '78 Fender Musicmaster bass. I just got it back today from the luthier who set it all up for me and played it tonight at practice, everything worked great!

The design is loosely based on the Eric Clapton "crashocaster" series from a few years ago, basically no real rhyme or reason, just be bright and colorful. I love it because it's the total opposite of my Squier Musicmaster /Grumpy bass which is all black and white, photos of that are in the Squier forum. Also painted by Jordan, he never really took to playing but he sure can paint 'em.

The first gig with it is next Friday 4/5, hope to get some video then.

I'll post if I get anything usable.

How cool! I remember the Clapton machine in a video and thinking how cool the colors looked. And I see you put a 4 pole pickup on board, too. That bass would be a hit on the Florida beach scene.

Thanx affprod....I had replaced the original strat pickup for a 4 pole a couple years ago. Had to do a little routering on the hole in the pickguard to get it in but it was worth it.

Would love to play on a Florida beach sometime.....living in WI it will be something to remind me of summer in our long winters. :D

We are in the Wisconsin Rapids area, central WI.

My son painted this and my Squier Musicmaster bass too.

Clapton stopped using those graffiti canvas Strats in late 2004.

I don't know about that, I just remember seeing him play the "over the rainbow" one in the Concert for George dvd. I fell in love with the design right then and there. I know this isn't for everyone but I love the "one of a kind-ness" of it.

Really interesting treatment and one thing is for sure, that is the only one like it.

Well that makes three cheeseheads. Spent 50 years in WI, still have a plant in Mayville. Just got home from there late last night, early this morning - which ever you like for just past midnight.

This was the "project" I'd mentioned awhile ago, and as you can see, since this was a replacement body purchased just for this project I did go with the string through body bridge and I'm glad I did. It sounds so nice.

The "Over The Rainbow" Strat you're talking about is Crash 1.

Yeah, that was the one I meant. I thought I'd read somewhere that it was also called the "over the rainbow" strat but Crash 1 works too. That was the original inspiration I guess, I just didn't want that large section of black/gray, nothing wrong with it but my other Musicmaster is all black/white so I wanted colors on this one.

Can't tell if your opinion on this is positive or negative Chromeface, no worries either way, we all express ourselves our own way in what we play and what we play it on.

For what it is (was) and what you had to work with, I think it turned out swell. For certain, you'll never see another one quite like it.

Rawk on!
