Maybe a Lounge question, but as it holds to all Fender basses, I wanted to keep it bass.

Brother Dave, in another thread, mentioned changes to sound that can result between a wired and wireless connection. I typically play wireless, Line 6, because I am cable challenged. Am I doing a disservice to my basses? Particularly my vintage pieces?

The Line 6 Relay G30 or a similar Line 6 Relay system probably it is not hurting at all. In fact the Line 6 Relay system is actually more transparent than the vast majority of instrument cables.

While most other brands do use some processing such as frequency shelving or compression/limiting, the Line 6 does not do that and thus is far more transparent than all but the very best low capacitance cables. The wireless system in the video in the other thread appeared to be a SHURE system which is quite different in transparency.

Thanks Brother Dave. I didn't want to interrupt that other thread, but you got me thinking. I appreciate your response.

If I was going to use a wireless I'd get the Line 6 G30 Relay system. No need to fool with the others. It might not have the longest range but hands down is the most transparent to date. I don't think there is any room for fidelity improvement at all but I can see them beefing up the range somehow. I also like the AA battery power instead of 9 V.

Okay- going wireless is cool -- I have one and I need to put a 9v batt in it every gig. Other wise it can go dead in the middle of the next gig. Odd maybe but I don't think I'm alone when I say I like the cable better. It could be that my brain tells me the sound is different when it really isn't or the sound is different (which it really is). I'm just so used to using those darn guitar cords. I don't use my wireless anymore. I like having it though because I can still use it if need be. That seems to be what I hear from other players. And I really do think that overall a wireless can have problems way more often than a cord does.

That is all true Stoker, except for the Line 6 Relay G30. It is a whole different thing than any other wireless I have ever checked out. It sounds as transparent as my MIT Ripcord cables which are like a capacitance of 0.0001. Compared them side by side. I can't tell the difference corded or cordless with a G30 Relay and the batteries on the G30 are AA and last 2 full gigs at least. Astounding. Really blown away.

Now that being said about the Line 6 G30 Relay system I must also say that any other wireless is a "compromise" for the convenience of being able to run around the stage like a maniac or mingle with the crowd on the front row. Almost any cord will sound better than another brand of wireless bass setup, even the very expensive ones.

I probably should repeat something I said earlier. There is no compression, automatic level control, automatic volume control, limiting, frequency companding or EQ shelving in the Line 6 Relay models. I tried out the G30 model. It sounds like a high end cable and frankly better than most cables. ALSO it has a shorter range than others, but the sound makes up for it. There are more expensive Line 6 Relay G series models but I can not imagine them sounding better but they may have longer range.

The AA's do last quite awhile. I never really paid that close attention but I had five freebie gigs last weekend, each one set, eight songs. Never changed batts. Was gone this past week, but did have to change batts during practice today, maybe an hour or so in.
