Hello there,
your bass set up link is a good deal for a preliminary set up etc. HOWEVER, my Tony Franklin doesn't have a 17th fret....as it is FRETLESS now finding fret position 12 is easy.... finding fret position 17 requires math...

so PLEASE provide a starting point for string height...say at the heel of the fret board/neck and perhaps the 12th since that is easy to get close to ..in this case 17" from inside of the nut....

and my neck sucked up 5 applications of Dunlop Fret board 02 oil. it was really dry and it has lived next to the sea... weird...lots of weird on the bass...
Thanks-Rollo

Don't strain your brain there Rollo!

I did the math for you:

Here, you will need this Fender "Math Wiz Set Up Briarwood Pipe," Fender part 009-OU-812 It makes setups on Fretless Fenders FAST AND EASY! Also if you are still having problems an alpaca sweater helps.

And a final word of advice on setting up a fretless Fender bass:

Better tone through SCIENCE! Math rocks! Take THAT Ibanez!

Hilarious, naw ONLINE calculator's try two - three if the numbers match - so be it...it was dead on...I have played for a LONG time and always set bridges to a Peterson, or strobe tuner.... i just grabbed froggie tape and exact 12th "made the EXACT" 17th (17" on a tape measure then rolled out the handy digital calipers to get the right of the decimal numbers correct).

but the fender guide said to use the string gauge as a determiner for a basic set up for the bridge tuning...and it was almost spot on...so it took very little tweaking to bring it in..used a curve tracer to get the 9.5" radius right...the old lady was around so i didn't assult it too much, today i will fire it up. (my "bass" amp right now is a fender vibro king + 2x12 cab or a supersonic 22 + the 2x12 cab). NOW i have to get a bass amp...and blown freaking away by some of them....

The only specification i look at is the POTOLP "Piss off the old lady power" ...if sufficient i buy the amp....

Ibanez..so funny..my nephew is a rabid ibanez dude  ...so i got him a GEM (should'a have been a Satch axe since he idolizes satch) to add to his other axe's (he's young and getting out on his own now). years ago a few weeks before the grand opening of the Guitar center in Tarzana CA (home of "THEE" mall) a great blues guitarist gave me a NICE embroidered Ibanez jacket (electric blue with a NICELY done embroider job) dude told me Lukather gave it to him..so i was a poseur a few times then hung it up...i'm a traditionalist fender gibson etc guy (although i am thinking about a Line6 variax). that occured in the EARLY 80's his B-day is soon so i sent it and some after show and full access satch "badges" in between the folds...he'll be the little crapper when he gets that stuff (+ 18w marshal clone kit i ordered for him)...

regarding the briarwood pipe...had one, thought i was cool back in the Pocket protector days Genuine RCA Vinyl- until it and the leather humidor pouch were lifted off my night stand in a Huston hotel...it was crappy weed anyway....mex

BTW i plugged in the bass with just the 2x12" +VK no knob twisting cuz dinner was on the table...but the jazz antiquity II sounded really sweet... immediately liked it..but i'm not a ripping bass player i just like to do bass gigs from time to time...

today is the test...then to GC for an amp test...thanks for the help -Rollo

I wonder what Albert really smoked?

P.S. i worked at Sandia in 79 on a on a pumped and gated LASER (65KW at the focal point)...lots of einstein's walking around and flying off to the desert on Ross "airlines". gates and allen hung at Ed Robert's place i had 3 ed robert's kluge jobs...so it was kind'a strange to move up here in 85 to Redmond....gate's owes me 27 cents and that's a fact - freaking guy NEVER has small dough.. burgermeister takes small dough..they gave him an account finally! (his old lady finally got him to wear the same colored socks)...i think that disease is catchy...cuz i went to work with one "work at home in the garden show) and one more "presentable" shoe on the other foot....his retirement video (not on youtube) is the stuff that makes a true geek pee in their pants....Once gave a commencement speech everyone thought i was going to speak of geekdom naw

learn to play golf (deals are made at the 19th hole)

don't talk trash about anyone while in a bathroom.....

four day old pizza/Chinese food/thai food...is doable (these's the geek stuff)

don't pack Preparation H with your toothpaste

Allen and Woz were my cup of tea (check out allen's octopus...freaking studer digital board and analog and digital recorders....must be tough has it's own support ship)...., "hey Eric this is Paul A. want to come down to the mediterranean on my dingy and play some blues?" must be really really tough....i bet the beer vault is awesome!

want some laughs google tales of a glorified sideman read up on Rod Stewart, Etta James gigs Jimmy had...classic stuff (the japan story had me reeling)...outta here -
