Yeah eBay. Also local Craigslist. Watch the used gear section of Guitar Center dot com. Go to their homepage click used tab and select ALL USED GEAR. Then when the next page loads type PROPHECY in the keyword space, click the dropdown for BASS and then click SEARCH NOW. GC doesn't have any anywhere in their entire used inventory, at least listed online. I'd check GC online used gear inventory weekly. One will eventually pop up.

Some other ideas. Check the vintage guitar shows near you. Lots of used dealers head to these with their high end gear so they'll not have a Prophecy III with them most likely. But hit every dealer display anyway and let them know what you are seeking. You never know what they left back at the shop or they might know another dealer with one.

Here is a link to about every major vintage guitar show on the planet.

Also contact Elderly Instruments and George Gruhn. They run across stuff all the time and neither lists their entire used inventory online because it is so big and turns over so frequently. Gruhn keeps a "want list" by customer.

I'd also phone DAVE GOLDENFARB at the THE BASS PLACE in Peoria, Arizona. This is a dedicated to BASS ONLY shop. They turn over a lot of used bass gear but usually only the real high end models are listed online. They need to know you are looking also.

Ok, POSSIBLY just POSSIBLY found one. Was asking $500 at last post this past November. Apparently not sold or probably would have posted it.

Good luck! These are excellent instruments and quite RARE. Not scarce, but RARE. $500 is a real good price for one.

Those Prophecy basses along with the MB models from that era were the precursors to the Dimension series, introduced in 2004.

Precursor to the Dimension? Sort of. The Dimension was a Mexican Fender version of the Heartfield Project inspired Fender Japan instruments that were sold under both the Heartfield and Fender brands as PROPHECY models. The Dimensions were not nearly as good as the Fender Japan ones made by Fuji-Gen. Fender moved production to Mexico and changed the model name from Prophecy to Dimension but there were not many other changes. The move was a price cutting measure to make the model more competitive as the US Dollar versus Japanese Yen exchange rate had tanked and Japanese made basses of any real quality had actually become just as expensive as an American made one.

All these instruments including the MB were outright Heartfield designs or variations on the Heartfield designs. The last Heartfield design team influenced FMIC marketed instrument is the Squier MB. Not exactly a graceful death.

The higher end Heartfield branded neck through basses from Fuji-Gen were some of the best production basses ever made with technology that no other basses had before and few have had since.

The 6-string Dimension VI never came into production.

That is odd since it appears the Heartfield DR-6C series had enough oomph to be made for 4 years, and the DR is a pretty nice bass.

Heartfield-Central.com has some interesting dates, etc. regarding both the Prophecy and DR series.

What is kind of cool, to no one but me, if you click on the Prophecy tab and look at the fotoflame Prophecy I pictured, mine (below) was the next one manufactured, serial # P038984. Okay, I told you it was of no interest to anyone but me....

I have a natural finish Prophecy III. It IS technically for sale, but since you've recently missed out on some poor fellow selling his for USD $500. You probably don't want to see mine. They do come up for sale in between $300 and $700 on ebay. Which is weird since the RRP on a Prophecy III in 1992 was $1149. That's what I paid for mine at the shop in 1993. Frankly I wouldn't sell mine for any less than that now. Prophecy II went for about $700 brand new, so maybe people are lumping them all in together these days *shrug*

It's an amazing bass though, I think you're right to inquire after them, the best feeling, easiest to play, glassy sounding thing I've ever had the hands on. At the time (since it was the 90's) I was getting into some pretty silly music and I wanted more of a wooteny fusiony bass sound and that's the sort of sounds it makes. These days I am more into a clunky thunky bass sound so I mainly play an old Rickenbacker with flats. But occasionally something more modern is called for and I've always had the Prophecy III around to brighten things up a bit. Lovely slapper too if you're into that sort of thing.

So here it is: I'm calling the going rate on a Prophecy III "misguided". So keep them peeled! You will find them down around the $500 mark and if it's a "III" grab it cause that's the bass you want at half price! Admittedly that guy had some mods and pickup changes, but it still looked like a bargain to me.

Also I too like your (pictured above) tigery flamey mapley faced "Antique Burst" I think is the official finish title, so you are not alone, but that saphire blue thing that Elderly was sitting on is "be-au-ti-ful" like the lady of the lake or something! Even so.. if you are going to make a bass body out of Bubinga! why would you cover that up with a finish :)

Anyone have any information on how many were made? I don't see that sort of data on the Prophecy series anywhere.
