Gents,
After searching forum I need more imput.
What year did Fender start producing basses in Mexico?
Is there an era (time frame) that Mexico produced higher quality instruments than other years?
Specifically, would the early 1990's be good years for Mexican basses?
Would Alder be the wood used?
Thanks in advance...

Fender celebrated 25 years of Ensenada manufacturing last July. Fireworks, live music, mucho grande fiesta!

Once upon a time, as a collector of Fender basses, I thought I had a fair amount of knowledge. Then I met Brother Dave here and continue to be astounded by his posts.

That is meant as a compliment.

Glad you roam the lounge.

Steve

Although I have never owned or played a MIM Fender, I have several friends who own and love them.

Sorry to be the one who has to tell you. It's been CANCELLED! Some evil entity let all the chickens loose and they are now a roaming, marauding bunch of anarchists!

The anniversary party was Friday July 20, 2012 in Ensenada.

Quite the throw down.

Over 1,000 guests. Many bands like Escuelita Fender, Grupo Fandango, and the popular Norteño band Intocable. Even this guy:

My invite must have gotten lost in the mail. I'm still devastated.

This Pawn Shop Mustang is right up there with any MIA bass. The Alder on it is good too.

AWE MAN- I missed the mucho grande celebration !!! I DO like my 2 MEXI P basses though mang. Roadworn and Classic 50's.In 98 I didn't like the Mexi basses but now they have come a long way across the border sidestepping chickens along the way to become very respectable and nice guitars. I also like my 50's Classic Surf Green Stratomacaster. I put me some of them Fender noisless in it. The only thing I find messed up about the Mexi guitars I have purchased is the pick-m'-ups. They sound like me after some bad tacos.
