I picked up a 68 Mustang that has been refinished, badly, from white into competition red. I bought it for a promotional gig I have to do for a few months where it will have a vinyl wrap on it. However, when that is done I will want to have a professional refinish job done on it. Any great craftsmen out there you can turn me on to? I want to start to do the legwork now, so in June I will be ready to go. Thanks.

Gord Miller.
Curtis Novak.

Those are the top people I know about. Gord Miller is an often quoted and interviewed vintage instrument refinishing authority. He is to refinishing what George Gruhn is to historical knowledge of stringed instruments. Curtis Novak is passionate about about vintage restoration also and has done extensive research on finishing products and methods. Mr. Novak's vintage color blocks are a frequently referenced resource for me.

A few other notable and capable refinishing shops in no particular order:

I list many other refinish shops on my website at:

Or you can just go to the RESOURCES link in my forum signature and click on REFINISH, RESTORE & MAJOR REPAIR.

Thanks Brother Dave. I will contact the first two in order and then on to the others if necessary - but that is not likely as I am looking for quality, not price.

I bought this 68 knowing it was a poor refin but was able to negotiate a reasonable price and it will be perfect to use in this promo as it is a fun little bass to play. (I have a 69) Something about wrapping one of my good basses in vinyl just didn't feel right, even though they say it comes off with no damage.

I am thinking it will turn out to be Daphne Blue when all is said and done. Love the color and have never been able to chase one down.

I appreciate your input, greatly.

Steve
