I've been reading the forum for a long time - never signed up though. Well, I cast my vote. Only a hundred or so more to go...

Personally, if I had to think of a cool bass that most people would use I'd go 1st generation Tele bass. Not a 51 RI, but fun 60's colors, one pickup, no frills bass. Everyone could use one of those in their stables, and it's not like everyone wants butterscotch or burst...

If that would prove too difficult, I'd want a passive P/J with a J neck - another useful bass. Make it anything other than black, burst, and red and I'd be sold.

My two cents.

I'd go for a Tele bass in Tangerine Paisley Print. With the four pole piece single coil p'up. Fender Lounge lazer etched translucent lavender pickguard with gold fill.Gold plated hardware. Special Fender Lounge Gold Plated Neck Plate. Fender Lounge headstock decal. DeLux Fender Lounge Gig Bag. Make mine a lefty please.

Wow. Now, we're talkin'! That sounds AWESOME...except the leftie part. You're right on the mark, though. A bass like that is definitely cool enough to be the "Lounge Bass".

I already have '76 P and Just bought an American Standard Jazz. The very last thing I'd want is a standard Mexi P or Jazz with the only difference being the neck plate and headstock decal. So I think something way cool is called for. Something strikingly different. A Jag or Tele is very appealing to me.

Agreed! That's the type of thing I'm talking about! The China plant is making the Telebasses. Granted that one may be a bit pricey in terms of the special hardware, finish, and pickguard. However, I'd like to see something roll off the line that is actually WORTH buying. I'm not going to buy a Deluxe P bass with a J neck. If I wanted that I could go to ebay.

 Right now we have 12 Fender Lounge Members interested. That's a far cry from 150 which is the minimum number Brother Dave has proffered for a special run. We should also talk about what a reasonable price point would be. Are we looking for something in the thousand dollar range or two?

How about a Modern Player Telecaster Bass in seafoam green with matching headstock. Either a mint pickguard, or maybe NO pickguard. And sell it with flat-wound strings installed. That would be different, cool, and should not drive the price very high.

Or maybe even through 3 humbuckers in there, just for overkill! : :P

I would LOVE a Modern Player TB with an ash body, Classic 70's P neck, rear routed, no guard, in some crazy finish like transparent dark cherry red or something. Though, if they rear routed it a 3 way Tele style switch with separate v/t controls would be the kicker. If you just look at the basses that roll out of either those two plants and the list of stock parts they use. You could easily make a very nice unique bass without breaking the bank, imo.

I'd think we'd be wise to shoot for the Roadworn/Classic series price point. Over 500 but under 1000. I think you could make a pretty sick FSR for that amount of money and have it still be affordable to a good chunk of the public. If you're talking US price points you've already eliminated a HUGE chunk of the market.

Just voted and I'll be good with whatever comes of it. The idea of a build it yourself from a variety of options sounds appealing. I don't know if it's possible from a factory standpoint. In addition to my Am. std. P, I own a Warwick 5 string fretless. Has anyone ever ordered these? You can order 4, 5, or 6 string models, fretted or fretless, active or passive, choice of finish in some cases, choice of hardware, etc. Not exactely totally custom, but you can get what you want within some guidelines. I don't think this would be too hard seeing as most Fender parts are interchangeable. :?

This thread has been stagnant for a week. Over on the G-Wanker side of things they are fairing a bit better with 17 Yeses, and 27 Depends. They must need diapers. 14 pages and 200 posts later and no decision. Some just want t-shirts & picks. Maybe a nice Fender Lounge G-Strap too???
