I'd want it to be made in Mexico with the Standard MIM hardware. Bold thing to say, but this bass wouldn't stay private to Lounge members for very long.

So you'd go out of your way to create a Factory Special Run bass that specifically takes the tone circuit and pick up combination that is supposed to add versatility to a standard Fender model and cripple it by stripping the tone pot? Then add to it's cost because it's now a non-stock circuit? Then go out of your way to add NOTHING else special to it and make it look like every other bass? No offense, but I think you might be the only person to buy one.

If 150 bass players put their heads together to get something done... then I think we could be on the moon in two years. Our next step would be "go to Mars". So if that many bassists get together on figuring out the build and accessories to make up a Forum bass guitar and if that could actually happen..... well then- that is going to be ONE HOT FREAKING MAMA BASS GUITAR!!!!!! Can you dig that? :!: :!: :!: :!:

Nothing really special..I just can't remember ever seeing such a combination of features on a Fender bass. The nearest thing I've seen had a P neck. They aren't gonna come up with a whole new bass just for the Lounge. No offense.

They don't need a "whole new bass". That's kind of the point and beauty of the Fender design. Most of the parts are swapable. Everything I listed above are production line parts. The bass you listed above requires a different soldering pattern for the tone cicuit. In the real of "something special" from a manufacturing standpoint. Your bass deviates from current production procedures. Mine doesn't. (with the exception of skipping the contouring. ) Meaning that your bass, even though it looks like nothing special and has 99% of the standard features, would be more labor intensive as it would require retraining. Mine would simply require less work.

Unless we get enough people voting yes it is all just so much hot air. Not enough interest yet to start discussing anything really.

Looks like the Spanish electric guitar people will get to enjoy a Lounge Strat or Tele while we won't get a Lounge Bass. Pity.

It really is. Do we even have enough regular posters in the three bass forums to warrant one? I'd imagine the bare minimum required to consider an FSR would be 100 or so, right? Not sure what the standard batch or work order size is in Ensenada, but I don't think they'd waste their time pumping out 30 basses. Sad. :(

Usually it is 150 units for a FSR model. I don't see them doing 30 either but they might make an exception for us if we hit 100 since they love us soooooo much! hehehe

That'd be nice. Hmmmm....maybe it would be easier to see what an Ensenada FSR built sheet looks like. Then do the votes on the forum no matter how many people we have interested in the selection process. Come up with a bass. (and guitar) Then market it on the site.

Then, If we could get enough interest in the finished design would be the question. Not really the process of selection. That will likely only appeal to us gearheads, and if the first one was successful then the selection process would likely grow to include more people.

I really think deep down that it could be interesting to do this once a year and have Fender sell it through the online store. Do a "Lounge Guitar and Bass model". "A limited edition guitar and bass designed by Fender musicians for Fender musicians." Do it as an annual two instrument series if the first pass goes well.

It'd be a way for the average enthusiast to get some input on a model. Not everyone can afford a CS model. This would be their chance to "be a part of history". From the actual design, to the finished product. The team in Ensenada could even do a few short videos for the ad campaign on the site. You could see the process unfold here on line. In the forum, or through a separate dashboard under the community drop down. Everyone weighs in once a week, or once a day and votes on the part, feature, or spec until we're completely done with each instrument. Then the specs get released.

I know it's a big gamble to do it that way. However, I think it'd generate a lot more interest and possibly turn into something revolutionary in the industry. Private individuals collaborating and financially committing to FSRs. A direct to customer model. It could be the next step in revolutionizing the musical instrument industry.

Think of it. A day where we all make an on-line custom build off a common build sheet in a database. A database that saves your builds and the builds of others until it gets enough to justify a proposed FSR bid. (say 300-500 entries) Then it sends out an email detailing the specs of the bass. A visual "guitar builder" mock up of what it'll look like. And it gives you the option to commit to the pre-order. If it gets enough commitments 150+, it goes into production.

No more big box retailers. No more MF. Heck, even Mom and Pop stores could get in on the action from different parts of the country by committing to buy the designs. Effectively "build sharing" the FSR so that it all doesn't need to come from one customer. There are plenty of other industries that do this already.

I'm pretty sure the Lounge Bass & Lounge Guitar FSR models would be sold through a dealer and not directly by Fender. Who that dealer would be I don't know. Perhaps the one closest to Corona or perhaps one in a centrally located city like like St. Louis would make sense. Another thing that makes sense is for them to be dealt through Guitar Center since they are everywhere and you can order online. With very few exceptions (for example the current nationally marketed Antigua FSR instruments) FSR's are ordered by one individual dealer or by a consortium of smaller dealers who split the order among several smaller dealers who ordinarily would never be able to order 150 of anything.
