Hi folks, I am considering buying a "Fender Custom PJ" from a pawn shop via CL, and am hoping to get some direction and advice. Don't know what he is asking for it yet but it looks nice in the pictures I had him take.

I am guessing it is MIJ?

Can anyone tell me if it looks "right" for a factory Fender Custom PJ? The headstock looks funny to me, the truss rod is at the headstock end, and I know there are lots of people putting Fender decals on just about everything.

Any idea as to the new and used value of this?

It looks to be passive only, which I am fine with, and I am hoping it will be able to give me the P bass classic thump with a J bass growl.

It doesn't look right to me. I have never heard of a Custom PJ as a legitimate model.

I would like a better look at the tuners and what is the serial number for this bass?

It appears to me as a re-labeled Squire,so I would be very skeptical that this is a real Fender bass.

Don't pay any more than $150 for it without good documentation. Which I suspect is not available, so you should probably run from this deal.

$150 wouldn't be bad, only if it sounds good. Could be a Highway 1 with a Squier body maybe? I'd yank the frets out in a hurry.

Certain this is not a Fender brand instrument. That headstock logo is totally counterfeit. I can almost make out the Squier logo on the neckplate. That finish and model does look like a Squier model. Interesting that the knobs have set screws. If it hadn't been counterfeited it might have been worth having as a genuine Squier but now it is a genuine nothing. If you need a cheap instrument offer $75. If they are a pawn shop they knew it wasn't a Fender when they took it on pawn or it could be that they just aren't much of a pawn shop.

There is, or was at one time anyway, a Custom Shop type operation making Fender branded instruments to order for professionals in Japan, but this didn't come from them either. The fake headstock decal is mighty hard to get around.

Wow, good eye. I went back to the original picture on my computer that they sent me and I could zoom in well enough to definitely make out the "Squier".

Folks, thank you all for looking at this for me. I would have considered buying it if it were an original Squier (if the price were right), but I won't buy a known counterfeit.

I've responded to the seller letting them know the specifics of what they've got, hopefully they will price it as a used and modified Squier and not as a used Fender.
