Anyone here have any idea on where I could buy a new body for my '78 Musicmaster bass?

The only ones I've seen are on Evil-bay, so that's an option. Just asking to see if there's other ideas.

Maybe this is against forum rules but I've asked Fender and was told they don't sell them.

I'm just curious as to what is wrong with the original body for your MM bass?

The only source I know of for a Musicmaster bass body is ebay or another MM bass.

It you are trying to restore a badly routed body, you can often have the old holes filled with pieces of wood and have the body sealed and finished in a solid color.

Any good guitar repairman should be able to do this job.

Good luck with your bass.

Hell BC...nothing wrong with the existing body but I want to attempt a repaint project and thought if I had another body that would be good. If it turns out great than I'm golden and I change over the neck and electronics. If it goes badly than I haven't ruined anything ya know.

That is a great idea. I wish more people would do this instead of altering original Fender parts.

It can't be that hard to make a MM bass body. Its only a slab cut body with top routed control and pickup cavities. They were made out of alder and Fender used four or more pieces of wood to make up a body blank.

I wish I knew of a easier way to get another body. I think you may have to make an extra body.

Good luck with your project.

I'm sure if you search you can find someone who makes one--- I'd try Warmouth- I think they custom make stuff too. Won't be cheap.

Well, the idea of keeping it all original is already past. This bass was found by a friend's parents in a hay loft of a farm they bought around 16 years ago. The paint was peeling in big flakes, and all of the hardware was pretty corroded.

I was able to save the bridge and neck plate but the machines were rusted in place so they had to go. The paint job was done at a local body shop so the blue color and the clear coat are auto based, very heavy layers. I stll have the original pickguard and pickup but they aren't in the bass right now.

I am leaning toward buying another body just for the sake of experimentation, change out only if it comes out.
