I need to replace the volume and tone pots in my MIJ Jaguar bass. It has those little mini pots, but I'd like to replace them with full-size CTS pots. The route in the body looks like it will be big enough for full size pots, but holes in the MIJ control plate are too small. This brings me to my question:

Is the control plate on the Jaguar bass the same size as the control plate used on the MIA Jaguar Guitars?

I figure getting a new control plate will be easier than me taking a file and scratching away at the control holes on my existing control plate.

Thanks!
...and a pic, for fun:

I just ordered a jaguar control plate online that will arrive tomorrow. I think it's one from Allparts but I am not shure. I will let you know how big the holes are.

The jaguar control plate arrived today. It is from Boston Musical Products and the holes are
3/8 inch or 9,5mm in diameter. CTS pot fits perfectly.

I have ran into similar problems when overhauling several instruments with mini-pots. I use an step drill bit in a hand drill and it takes just a moment to "expand" the hole. Put the plate in a vice first between two small thin blocks of wood. I agree that filing by hand would take too long. When converting any instrument with mini-pots to standard pots you'll need either a new plate or have to expand the original plate. The trim ring and nut covers any inaccuracies in hole roundness and by the time the knob goes on you can't tell the hole has been expanded. The familiar feel of a full size CTS pot makes this upgrade somewhat worthwhile but doesn't seem to impact tone one bit. 250K is 250K. Still I've done it several times. Mini-pots do not feel the same to me though.

Thanks BrotherDave, might be time to invest in a step bit. I figured there wouldn't be much of a difference in tone. My volume mini-pot has been giving my problems, so I'm going to be swapping it out anyway. All my other basses use full-size pots, so I've got a couple replacements already laying around.
