I have a Squier Affinity P-Bass S.N. CY04099042. After 37 years of professional gigging, this is absolutely the best sounding and best playing bass I have ever owned. Can anyone give me some idea what year it was made? I'm having a hard time nailing down exact info but from bits and pieces I have gathered it was made in Taiwan in 2004. If this is correct, what do the rest of the numbers mean?

Thanks for helping out the new guy here.

Yeah, every so often maybe 1 in 10,000 comes out to be really special. Congrats!

I'm curious as to what other basses you are comparing this magical wonder to in order to declare it the best.

You'd probably get better info in the SQUIER section of the Fender forum than here in the Fender section of the Fender Forum.

I know just enough about Squier basses to be dangerous. The rest of the Fender people here too are pretty much in the same boat. The Squier gurus are in the Squier section for the most part. There are some bassists here like Oxfan that has both Fender and Squier basses but he knows more about Fender than Squier.

Go to the BOARD INDEX, scroll down until you find the SQUIER GUITARS and SQUIER BASS GUITARS sections and post your question there to get some good response from the Squier gurus. Good luck!

Thank you, Brotherdave. Your info was helpful.

I have played several brands of basses in my time but I always came back to Fender. I am comparing my Squier to a '91 Japanese Precision and a '05 American (both very excellent basses) and I'm guessing this must be one of those "factory freaks" that you hear people talk about.

I will take your advice and check out the Squier section. Thanks again.

Stroker, really...are you that bored?

It looks just like any other P-Bass only the hardware is flimsy pot-metal of the sort used in a Saturday Night Special handgun and the body is made out of veneered pressed wood composite reminiscent of a $10 end table at Ikea.

Lots of people love em. I've played them and actually they are not bad at all for $180. Beginner price range stuff. I'd strongly suggest the 34 inch scale active Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar Special over this though. It is about the same price and a way more versatile axe. Both make good beaters. The Affinity P is passive so it should be longer lived and will be easier to work on...and you will probably work on it.

Well I think maybe that dude never had a good bass then. I could be wong but I dunno. I thought maybe it had a special look to it or what not- maybe like an afinity look.

Dear "Sroker":

I came on this forum to find out more about an amazing bass that I found for very little money, not to read the ramblings of some closet player who probably doesn't gig and obviously hasn't been to enough music stores to even know what I'm talking about. It plays and sounds incredible and I am comparing it to very high quality basses. I have even recorded with it on several occasions and it sounds even better in the studio. I have been on tour with famous local blues musicians halfway across the country and back and I was approached by a rep from GHS strings asking me if I had special pickups on my bass because it sounded so good.

I do know what I'm talking about and have made a living playing music for a very long time. If you don't have an informed opinion or some helpful info then have a nice day and goodbye.

The rest of you contributors, thank you for your input. If you like you can go to my band's website and see and hear this bass. www.deltarageband.com

If you visit the website may I suggest listening to the intro of a song called "Jail" in the video section. Thank you.

Like Brother Dave said, there's always a chance that someone will find "the one". Glad it was you. Squier has made leaps and bounds in their instruments. I have a VM Modified Bass that I like a lot.

Congratulations on a great find, enjoy!
