I currently lament the limited number of finishes available for the Mustang bass. Fender Japan has some spectacular finish options for the model but Fender US only has one finish at present, and while I don't wish to sleight Vintage White as a finish option, it seems a little too ordinary for my taste.

I would strongly recommend playing one for a while first. Like a half hour sitting at least in a shop, or on a friend's bass. Why?

Made my right funny bone ache every time after playing for some reason, even though my funnybone wasn't touching the body. So, for whatever reason it was not a good ergonomic fit for me and I had to return it.
I am 5'7", so I am not too big for the bass, I don't think.

Pros:
They sound fantastic, and play fantastic, and look fantastic. Great basses!!!!!

Two cons I ran into:
Neck does not join body at same fret as a Pbas, so much more limited access up high if you ever need it (I did).

I need a heavy duty, Roadrunner style, short scale gig bag for my Fender Mustang Bass.
I've had a hard time carrying on full scale basses on airline's & hate to check my instrument, so I'd like to bring my Mustang bass & put it in the overhead compartment when I fly.

Hello People at Fender.... Do you make a good quality short scale gig bag for the Fender Mustang??? No-one seems to make a short scale gig bag! Now that airlines charge more for baggage. more of my peers are carrying their instruments on board. I even have friends that take their neck off their bass so it will fit in a carry on!!

We Need Heavy duty, Short scale bass gig bags!.....And I agree with the other dude, More colors on the Mustang.... I scored a Blue Competition bass that someone brought over from Japan & it ROCKS!!!!!

The Mustang bass neck joins the body at the 14th fret and that is the same on all Fender basses.

That is what is preventing you from playing up high on the neck?

I must be missing something in your technique, because at 5'7" I would think that a Mustang bass would be ideal for you.

I am 6" and I like to play my Mustang Bass just as a break from all of the long scale basses that I usually play.

It would be nice to have different colors. The little Squire knock off Mustangs are coming out in Silver Sparkle. How cool is that!

Amervintage '62 pbass reissue is at the 16th fret.
Mustang is 14th fret.
It feels alot different.
You can see the pics here at Fender.

Also, for some strange reason, my funny bone aches after playing the Mustang for some reason, even though my elbow doesn't contact the instrument.
It is ergonomically different than the Pbasses, and didn't work out for me.
