Has anyone seen one?

I understand they were made only in Japan! It's time for one in the USA!

I guess you're talking about this:

You can order one from the CS if you want a USA-made version. :| Those basses are made only for the Japanese domestic market.

Wish you could still get ahold of these here. I had a chance to scoop one up on ebay years ago and passed. I've been kicking myself ever since. I understand why Fender is limiting the market. I don't agree with it, but it is what it is. The Japan basses, the single coils and slab bodies in particular are things of beauty. The squire version of my CIJ 51RI P isn't anywhere near acceptable as a gigging instrument. The Sting Sig is the only surviving import of the early style P's. It's really sad.

These thinline Slab Bodies, the 51RI's, and The Sting are all amazing basses. Some of the best Fender has ever produced. :(

Also, The Fender Japan 70's P Bass in Oly White is a much more faithful recreation then the one Fender is passing off here. Sure the one here looks sharp, but it's a modern radius neck. It's not a "70's P", at all. The Fender Japan model gives you the much sought after vintage radius with A width neck that was produced in limited quantity in the late 70's. It's a shame that the we are kept from buying the best that Fender makes because of crap like this.

The MIJ 70's fretless P-Bass with that unlined maple board is amazing. Too bad it's actually unavailable worldwide.

Yeah. The restriction on MIJ imports really hurts. Especially when we aren't given access to MIA or MIM models that are comparable in features, price and quality. One of the worst moves. Ever. :(

I'd likely have 2 other basses right now. One of the ones the OP mentioned and a second 50s SCPB RI. Maybe one of the Paisley models or another Sunburst 51 or something. :/
Instead I get by with my lone 51RI, and my Franken 62Ri P bass built from parts from the Stratosphere. A MIJ 62RI P neck, Midnight Wine MIM P body, and a AVS 62RI pup, wiring harness, bridge, pickguard/shield, tug and covers. It's a great bass, but it really stinks to know that the Fenders that I want are made, but I'm just not allowed to buy them. :?
