I just purchased a 82' MIA Bullet Bass Deluxe(long Scale) yesterday. Will it fit into a jazz/precision style hardshell case?

That is a good question- because the body is a little different than a J or a P isn't it? Take it to GC and find out. Then you could always buy a rectangle type bass case that it may fit in.

The gray colored FENDER USA case of the 80's to early 90's will work, but I'm not sure about today's SKB made one or about the Tolex ones either.

Luckily mine came with one, but I bet they're hard to come by in the used market. Congrats on a RAD bass! Pics? Here's mine with his Jazz cousin:

What is the deal with the design of the bullet? It has potential to be something very nice. You know- some redesigning and it might be great-- right? I would keep the headstock like it is though--- How much do those go for?

About $500 to just under $1000 around here. Depends on year and condition. They play well.

I paid $350 for mine, and really love it. There's nothing in the design I'd change, although I did have the tone cap replaced and will likely replace the nut with bone at some point. I haven't even been playing my Jazz since I had the Bullet set up.

As for the Squire Bullet cases, if I'm not mistaken, all Squire Bullets were short-scale (30"), so I doubt it'll fit.

As far as the design- I'd have it routed for a P bass pickup so I could slap a Dimarzio in it . That would mean making the pickguard just a little bigger in the pickup area... I'd go ash or alder for the body and I'd want it the same thickness as a Jazz or P bass body-- I like the maple neck--- oh - I'd go string thru the body-- strap locks like USA models-- neck plate gasket-- bone nut--I'd move the bridge a little closer to the pickup if the bridge on the one in the picture is any indication of how close the saddles have to be to the edge of the bridge plate for proper intonation. I'd like colors like Surf and Seafoam and Sunburst and the Antique White and Fiesta Red and maybe Black. I'd have it sell for about 1000. I'm undecided on where the input would be. Wouldn't a Strat type input be cool?-- That would be more work on the pickguard though and the routing of the electronics cavity. An option for a Jazz pickup would be nice with an extra volume pot. The extra pot could be close to the strings like a Strat, It wouldn't be in my way because I use my fingers to pluck.

So basically what you're saying is that you wouldn't want a Bullet Bass. Hell, the coolest things about it beyond the amazing neck are the pickup and the lightweight body. I did add Straplocks, but I've done that to every electric guitar and bass I've owned in the last 23 years.

No prob wouldn't want one. The body shape , neck and pickguard are cool. I was thinking they could come out with a new bass like the bullet but not. They did quit making them awhile ago I guess. I don't know why. Maybe no one wanted one cause it didn't have the new design.

I understand the apprehension toward them. Personally I don't like P-Basses despite many attempts. When I got the Bullet, it was intended to be a cheap backup. I had no clue I would love it as much as I do, and I'm super picky, but it really just comes down to everyone's individual personal preference. Finding the right bass is a fun process of trial and error, which means we get to play and own lots of cool instruments in the process! :D
