Hey guys,
I have a Fender JP-90 that has a broken nut that I'd like to replace, but I'm not sure where I could find one. I guess these basses aren't very popular. Here's a picture of one that looks exactly like mine. Since it's older and not a Jazz or P-bass I've had a bit of a time finding this part.
Thanks for your time!
Erika :)

Welcome to the forum Erika. I am reasonably certain that a Precision Bass nut is the answer here. The specs on this neck indicate 1.625" nut or 41mm. That is the exact width dimension of the P-Bass neck.

I had a 92 model JP90. I loved it and kept it for a very long time (relative to how fickle I usually am.) This one was a great player, it was passive, had a P neck and had a wide range of tones and each pickup could be soloed without the other pickup loading it down. It was my favorite gigging P/J ever. They are freaky looking too aren't they?

Take care with the pickguard, they are pretty fragile and pretty hard to find, however Pickguard Heaven has some though. Just for future reference, these use 500k pots and a 0.068 cap in case either issue ever comes up.

Back when I played guitar, my bassist in high school had a cool PJ bass somewhat different from this one. I don't think it even had a pickguard, but that's beside the point.

Take your bass to your local luthier/guitar shop and have them cut a bone nut. It won't cost much, but it's totally worth it.

Thanks for the great info Brotherdave & Garbanzo! I'll try a Precision Bass nut. I'm also looking to get a new pickguard, clumsy me! It really is freaky looking, trying to get it playing again as my backup bass is even more freaky - an old Hagstrom.
BTW: Brotherdave, thats an amazing webpage you have there... so much great info! thanks!

Thanks. And a Hag is my 2nd favorite 60's bass. The Futurama "Cheese grater" one is awesome and makes a fine backup!

As for the pickguard on the JP90, check pickguardheaven.com where it is listed on the page labeled on the homepage as "Fender and Squier Bass, Other."

I would love to try a Hagstrom, should I ever come across one. Oh, the basses I'll play.
