So the original came out in 2006, and I guess Fender stopped offering it in the US market, until this year. My friend bought the new version, and I LOVE IT!! The different tones you can get out of it is amazing. Super fast thin neck. I will definently be buying one, just wanted to spread the word around!!

The Jaguar Bass has had it's ups and downs. Glad you like them. Some of them from the earlier runs have been noisy and hopefully Fender Japan got that issue resolved on the new run. On paper, they should be very versatile while in reality they often got noisy in active mode. I suppose there was no need to bring them back if they couldn't make them stop buzzing. I've done shielding jobs on a few around here to try to tame the noise. I love all the options they afford but would find it too difficult to reliably repeat the same tone later. I'm ore of a P-Bass guy. 4 strings and 2 knobs are enough....batteries not required.

Yeah, I guess you have to find one or two settings you like, and then keep them there.. I guess it's good for on stage Eq, if you need less highs or lows, you got it without going to your amp.. but in all honesty this has to be one if not the best playing bass I have ever layed hands on...

Most Jag basses are active.

Wferguson,

got to agree with BrotherDave here.

I have been playing a few in stores for the lat month and finally pulled the trigger. I got a Cobalt blue one even though I know I should have gotten the 3 tone.

mine is MIJ...one of the nicest Fender necks I have ever put my hands on. ( my second bass when I was like 15 or 16 was a 68 P bass that I hated the fat neck.)

they have NOT addressed the hum situation. My amp has 2 inputs one passive and one active. in the active input the hum is less but then so it the output of the bass.

in the passive side I get great tones but too much metallic clank and the clip light comes on if I get on it and the hum is very loud and distracting

the neck is the best thing about this bass. I would take it with a P body and passive P/J combo.

the body is also uncomfortable for me when I play it standing with a strap (something I didnt try in the store) my wrist is uncomfortable where it rests. this part is odd because most people say that about the body of a Ric which is my primary bass for the last 11 years but no other Fender bothers me in that spot.

too many switches, low output though the active side of the amp, the Hum, the blue finish is a little much and the un comfortable body and a bit of neck dive....I think this one is going back

Currently Fender offers a Pawnshop Reverse Jagbass (aka Reverse Fenderbird) with a pair of Music Man humbuckers. A great nod to Leo and the second successful company he founded in 1976!

Definitely has lots of Fenderbird vibe on it!

Hey Rock Star ... I know what you're talking about with the buzz (almost sounds like a grounding issue) in the Fender Jaguar bass. I'd love to use that mode, but it's really noisy once you break contact with the strings and metal. The bass is fun, but I'd like to solve that riddle. I'm wondering if using CTS post might help.

In my opinion different pots would make little if any difference at all. The buzz is an RFI issue primarily from the single coil Jazz pickup and secondarily from the extensive wiring which is amplified by the preamp in active mode. (These basses have a passive/active switch.) Copper foil shielding does help quiet this a lot. Copper foil tape and sheeting is cheap but it is very time consuming to do it correctly. There is a lot of wiring and cavities in the original Fender Jaguar Bass design and you have to shield them all. Like any single coil bass they can be quieted a lot if you shield everything you can to ground including the back of the pickguard, pickup cavities and all control cavities including the switch cavity and more securely attach the bridge ground wire to one of the bridge screws. I highly prefer copper sheet and tape shielding over shielding paint. It won't be dead quiet like a passive P-Bass, but far less susceptible to RFI hum for sure. The downside is that this takes a lot of time to do correctly.

One good site on copper shielding: http://www.artandtechnology.com.au/guitar/shielding-strat.html

Another good site to read: http://archive.basssessions.com/oct04/shield.html

Another trouble spot is the switches which can get "touchy" or a source of static. Spray contact cleaner helps that.

Wow! Thanks a ton for the info! Very, very helpful. I do use DeoxIT for the pots and things. But yeah, it's the single coil/RFI thing like you say.

Thanks for the links!
