Having someone repair the pot itself involves prying up the tabs on the casing until the casing will open, swapping internal parts and reassembling. There is a tutorial HERE showing how to convert any pot to a no-load pot. The same procedures apply, except instead of modifying existing parts you just swap out all the internal components with parts from a new pot of the exact same type and then reassemble. With much care you can do that without de-soldering anything! This is obviously far more time consuming, intricate and delicate than just swapping out a pot and costs way more due the additional labor but may pay off 10 or 20 years down the road in an appraisal or sale. http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/pots.htm

Update on the "Bass Brace":

Image

Had a larger cap put in, but I kept the orange one for posterity. Oh, and obviously I switched out the pickguard. It's from WD: http://www.wdmusic.com/fender_bullet_ba ... -5203.html The neck pocket wasn't exactly right, but it only took a small snip and a little sanding on the bottom side. It still angles away from the neck slightly, leaving a gap on the top, though. A small price to pay for not dealing with returning it and doing that waiting game back and forth.

That guard looks great! Sort of a tuxedo effect.

Did the new cap make a difference in the function of the tone control?

Yes. He tested the old one and agreed that it was basically imperceptible, and the new cap definitely has more oomph to the roll. I just had it done this week and picked it up yesterday afternoon, thus haven't played it through a rig yet, just my practice amp, but I feel like I have more control there now as to how I want it to sound. Now to find my thumb sweet spot...

The cap maybe is bad or there could be a broken solder joint.

It's not the case as garbanzo write ; " The solders look good, so if the pot is bad, I was hoping to find some replacement suggestions here. Thanks."

Or he did not see something wrong for the expert ?

YES!!!! It WAS the capacitor! Yay me! Was that a lucky guess or WHAT?
