I haven't seen one but the model number, 0241502550, starts with a 02 and that would seem to mean Japan but I can't say for certain but if you look at the model numbers. The Japanese ones usually start with 02. USA ones and MIM ones usually start with 01. But with the prices so low on them I'm wondering the origin myself.

According to the spec sheet someone posted over at Talkbass, it's made in China.

Now I see there is a Modern Player Jaguar as well. Looks really cool with its maple neck with black blocks.
Wish they would release a short scale verion of it!!! 8)

Actually, it turns out that spec sheet was posted at TB by Rob Schwarz, director of comsumer service at Fender.

Yep China is it. That explains the low price. I'm reserving judgment until playing one.

Sweeeeet, Got my Telebass the other day.
Seems I am one of the first to get a modern player in Aus. Nice.
Anyway first impression. Man, it looks good. All nice and shiney.

Not weighed it but it is not a heavy animal at all, it seems well balanced and well, it just feels right.
The finish is OK, not top notch but Hey, at this price who cares! I want to play it not admire it.
The neck feels a bit " sticky " but I will soon sort that but otherwise it feels very comfortable in the hand. Not too sure about the tuners yet but I will most probably swap them out for a quality set anyway.
Onto the body.
The scratch plate does look a bit rough and cheap and I definitley don't like the chrome dome buttons. I can't see where I have anything set so I will be changing them asap after the Christmas hols. I quite fancy the idea of some chicken heads if they will fit.
The bridge looks ok and overall the setup was fine.
Playability was fine it felt good to hold and giving it a good slap around was veeeery nice and twangy..
Took a bit of time getting the balance of the pups right but when you do, hitting the strings in the different positions gave a different tone right from the bridge all the way up to the neck.
Plucking at the 20th fret gives a really warm sound.
Now seeing as I don't have a bass amp yet( that question will be following later ), I have just been putting it through the Tweaker, Line6 and Fender FM65 at low volumes just to get a feel for it.
All in , I am impressed with it and at a bargain of less then $600 au.
Love it, recommend it. And before anyone bitches, I have owned a 1978 Precision and MusicMaster both bought in 1980 now sadly gone so I do know what it is like to play a higher quality instrument. lol, in fact I paid less for both of them then I did the Tele now.
BUY ONE NOW.
Keith

Congratulations on your new bass! It's always good to hear someone happy about their new instrument. As far as anyone judging your decision, so what.

The only person who has to be happy is you. I will say, you're not alone, hearing a lot of good things about the modern players
.

Yep congrats on the Telecaster! Funny but I'd have preferred this with the single coil pickups myself. I'm not a humbucker fan as a rule.

Anyway there is a fairly glowing review complete audio samples here: http://en.audiofanzine.com/electric-fre%20...%20thing.html

Forum member Audiofan posted that link on another thread on the forum.

The Telecaster Bass samples are labeled PRECISION but you'll figure it out.

It is also supposed to be a review of the Modern Player Jazz too, but the main focus is the Telecaster. I think the author liked it better, so they talked about it more.

The Chinese are now where Japan was 25 years ago and it didn't take them very long to get there either. Everyone rants about how good the Squiers have been recently.

I remember when Korea was the bottom of the barrel for instruments back in the late 80's. Now, a lot of those made there are around the $1000 range. I wonder who will replace China as the cheap manufacturer when they develop up to that level?

Just got mine last night. Great retro fat sound, similar to a P bass but throatier. I did not get a manual or tools (not that I need tools) and I have no idea how to adjust the pickup height. Anyone know? TIA...

I don't know about this bass, but I think you can do that by adjusting the screws on the ends of the pickups. Or are you talking about the pole pieces?
