Just got it today with case. It is a current production model - Made in Japan. Just like the pic on Fender's site. Vintage white with rosewood fboard and maple neck. I like the dark tinted maple neck. Very cool. Pics to come.

Call me crazy, but it is sounding just as powerful and good as my American Vintage '62. Reissue Pbass. This thing is loud. Plays great right outta the box. Intonation is good, stays in tune. Notes are true. Very punchy and clear, but warm tone. Could gig with it tonight and it would play fine. Neck is small and fast and comfy.

Fender has always been good right out of the box, in my experience. No issues, just play away!

Of course, I will be changing the strings to my fav LaBella 109 flats (albeit shorties, and for string-thru). Then a set-up. I look forward to it.

Only complaints are:

1. I didn't realize the body joins the neck at the 14th fret. A little wierd, but nothing that can't be adjusted to. My Pbass joins at the 17th fret I think. So, upper access on the Mustang is not easy at all. But I guess that is one of the "student" aspects of the instrument. I don't play anything past the 17th fret usually, so no biggie.

2. The case is nice, but they coulda put a storage compartment in it while they were at it!
It looks like a vintage Mustang case, but smaller. Black on black.

Anyway, pics to come for anyone who is interested.

Congrats in order,I have played a bunch of them and just like every other Fender from Japan I have played"out da box"they all were quality basses.
Fender Japan are more consistant in the "factory set-up" dept than even the US models are,and their tone is MUCH better than the original ones, they sound like a full scale bass with a set of precision pickups.
While working at a music store I had the great job of tagging and hanging the guitars and basses everyday and I cant recall ever coming across a Mustang bass that was in dire need of a set-up(yes some could have used one,but not in order to be able to play it)QC at its best,I would have one but they dont offer a maple fretboard like the originals did and I wont buy the Squier version(for no reason other than my own preference)
Good-Luck with it.

Thanks. I hope to post pics soon. The set up was real nice. This is my second Japanese Fender bass, and the craftsmanship looks just as nice as my American basses. I can't tell a difference. I really like the fact that they use the darker neck tint. Looks nice.

Only other thing I notice is it is a little neck heavy. Are they usually that way?

Thanks, man. The other Fender bass I ordered a few years back came in about a week, like this one. Glad it didn't take 5 months!

5 months is nothing. It took 9 when I ordered my Steve Bailey Jazz. I know I still haven't gotten around to pics.

For shortscale players' reference:

LaBella says they will make their flats for string through and shortscale in any guage you want that is in the regular flats production. I am in the process of getting them ordered now.

Thanks for the congrats! Now I just have to vaccum my case. It is shedding onto the bass (you can see it in one of the pics). Wish they would have put a storage compartment in it.
Did they have it in the original cases?

Nice bass--I like Mustang basses--as well as Mustangs--cool shape.
And they have their own sound which I like.

I have seen a spectrum of paper white through almost yellow (like on the Fender site) in pictures online. However, of the two I have seen in person, they are like my bass pictured above. The ones of the bass up against the wall are most accurate. It depends on the lighting. I would say the pics of my bass against the wall are the most accurate of the color.

Congrats! I also have this bass, I bought it used at a resale shop, the pickups have a really nice boom to them. It came with round wound strings which I didn't care for. I ended up installing the Rotosound RS77S flat wound strings for that nice, vintage thump!

Welcome to the Forum Sunnman!

Lungimsam, the original Mustang cases were quite basic and had no storage compartment, but as I recall did have a little short strap to secure the neck. Here is a photo of a '72 with case. As you can see, no storage compartment.

Fender is consistent with this model. I have a 2003 Mustang Bass and it looks identical to the new ones. I usually play a Strat and switching off to the Mustang is easier because of the short scale. I restrung mine with GHS Precision Flatwounds - nice mellow thump and easier on the fingers.

My case is the same solid construction, but the fuzz comes off and ends up on the bass. Also, there is no pick box/compartment, but plenty enough room for one. I wonder why Fender didn't include one like most cases. Minor whine. A Crown Royal bag does the job for small stuff.

I really like the Vintage White color. I was told the color looks like french vanilla ice cream! :D
