Hello,

I have a Bass VI, and the low E has so many harmonics but not a solid low e fundamental tone.

Sounds very zingy and the pitch wavers.

Neck is straight and nut and bridge piece seem to be ok. Doesn't appear that string is vibrating on anything. Happens on all the notes I play, not just open.

Have you tried lowering the pickups? Is the bridge saddle stable? It could also be a bad string.

Update:

1. I checked out the pups individually. The neck pup was way hotter than the other two. Way too hot. Middle and bridge pups were too quiet. So I lowered the neck pup height and raised the other pups to 5/64ths bass and treble sides.

2. Bridge saddles were set up so that the saddles were slanted to mimic fingerboard radius, so I made the Low E saddle level by raising the outside edge a bit.

Voila! Much better. That neck pup is HOT!!!! I have it half way down into the pickguard and it is still loud as all get-out.

I guess too much pull from that pup was the prob. Sound is balanced across all strings on each pup now.

I know there is no set-up info for the Bass VI pup height. 5/64th sounds great on mine.
Hope this info may help other VI'ers.

Thanks for the tip BroDave.

If that did'nt work I always suggest chkg the intonation too,I always check when adjusting anything, even strings changed can alter the intonation some.
enjoy, Dave's in the mark

He said, "Voila! Much better" which to means means that I think that adjusting pickup height fixed it.
