The new neck is touted as a "slimmer C-Shape"

Anyone know exactly how thin? measuring from the back of the neck to the top of the first fret?

Thinking of buying the neck to put on my Active Deluxe Jazz, which I love except for its neck!

what's wrong with the neck you have? The Am Special is not that great. I played with both the the P and the J Am Special. Not impressed. The quality is not better than the Hwy 1. Certainly not better than the American Std. There is a thread a few months back in the P or J forum about how everyone that has tried one didn't like it. I'm on that camp too.

The one I tried at Guitar Center was just fine. The fit and finish were impressive (sunburst) as was the sound and feel of the neck. The body was thinner than the Standard Jazz and I had them weigh it on the store's postal scale and it came in at 8.5lbs - This is a goood thing!

An Oly White one I handled had the woodgrain lines showing through the finish at certain angles meaning the wood wasn't sealed properly, but the burst was like a sheet of glass - Really nice burst and great clearcoat.

The neck was straight as a ruler and the frets were nicely finished. Absolutely no buzz whatsoever and decent action from a factory setup. I can't see why others don't like this bass. Possibly the early runs weren't made with as much attention to detail as this factory fresh one was. It was for sale @ $999 and they offered me 10% off that without me even asking. I'm tempted.
