Hey everyone, advice is needed!

I'm working on a Fender Japan Jaguar Bass, originally it was a simple problem that the input jack was incredibly intermittent, would cut out easily so a simple swap-over was needed to fix it.. easily done, wired it in and now i've got a problem where the output is next to none, it's coming through with no noise but just barely any volume to it. rechecked my soldering which is all fine, re-soldered it on anyways just to check and still have the same issue. any ideas? i've done the obvious and checked the battery so the simple solution's definitely not there!

You probably have an in-line break in one of your wires somewhere. Start wiggling each and all with your fingers, including manipulating the battery clip.

i had a brainwave and luckily, i've got another jag bass here so i swapped out the jack input by disconnecting the wires at the switch and the battery instead of the jack, just to make sure it's not my wiring, fitted them into the faulty bass.. and the problem is still there. so that rules out the jack, switch wire and ground to the battery. so that leaves me volume/tone controls, and the pre-amp itself! there is output, but it's minimal :(

any more ideas out there?

How does it sound in passive mode? That should take the preamp out of the equation. Any chance the jack was wired incorrectly? Checked the battery? Checked the instrument cable to make sure it is good? Just to be certain I'd try another cable.

Replace it with a quality Switchcraft or Fender jack (made by switchcraft)

There can be a few things here so I always go easiest(cheap) to hardest(more costly)looking for the problem.
Is it at all possible that you MAY have crossed the wires ? I am very familiar with this issue and to cross a couple of wires is'nt the end of the world and more common than you think, check out a wiring diagram and compare the wire leads.
Next check the copper ultra thin pickup windings, any visible wires sticking up?they are super thin and EASILY broken and hard to locate being the threads are so thin and almost impossible to find the break,I had a jazzbass that had this issue.I was refinishing it and somehow in taking it apart I popped a SINGLE thread so thin it was almost invisible.
And then when it was done I noticed the neck p-up had only 5-10 of its volume and after going thru everything with a fine tooth comb we were able to find the source and fix it,it was a pain to find but worth it to get it back to full strength.
These are only opinions or suggestions and possible answers to your issue,so take what you need and use what you can.
GOODLUCK
