Hi all!

First, please excuse my poor english, I am from Barcelona (Spain).

I have just registered here and, yes, I have not done any search before asking this, but...

I have recently bought a Fender electroacoustic bass guitar, Kingman SCE, and I do not like the Phosphor-Bronze roundwound (4) strings it came with.

I've always used flatwound strings in my electric (fretted) bass and I would love to change the electroacoustic to flatwound too, but I'm afraid it could damage the instrument in some way (tension, neck, ...).

Am I wrong?. And, if not, would you give me some advice on the election of flatwound strings?.

Thank you in advance.

¿No one can help me? ¿Here, in the Fender Forum?

I really need to know if the bridge (and/or the top) of the electroacoustic bass Fender Kingman could withstand, without been damaged, the increased tension that the change from Phosphor/bronze rounds to steel flat strings?

¿Anyone knows someone who could have made this change of strings in a electroacoustic bass?.

Please, share your ideas about it.

I have a Kingman SCE Bass and a short while after I bought it, I decided to put Fender 9120M, nylon tapewound strings on it.

It gave it a great feel and a super cool sound when plugged in, however it cut so much resonance out of the acoustic sound, that I decided to put back the phosphor-bronze roundwounds, even though they shred the fingers and frets.

I did notice however that the tapewounds require less tension for the same standard tuning, than the phospor-bronze acoustic strings.

I bought a Kingman last month thru Guitar Center. ($479.00 US). I changed my strings to Ernie Ball "Earthwoods" Though they are still phosphor-bronze, I am quite pleased with the feel and the sound. They are a lighter guage and the only problem I have is with the E string inntonation. It is just slightly sharp at the 17th fret. However, the other strings are spot on, so perhaps I made an error during the install. Maybe I have the string set too far in the body. This is my first accoustic bass and I was not sure even how to change the strings. It took some effort to pull the "peg" out of the body, and since the E string was the first one I changed...as I said, I may have it set wrong.
