Just want to know the difference. Some say they can't tell by listening. Some say its the wood; Some say electronics or both and, some say it just cost more cause its made in america. Can anyone with professional knowledge tell me before I go and buy a American Deluxe Active 5 String bass for 1700 when I already have one that is half that price.

Hey, They're both very nice basses. From what I know, the differences are, the American comes with the N3 Noiseless pups while the MIM has "N1" Noiseless pups. Also, the American comes with more colour options, and optional maple fretboard. The American has switching from passive to active.
Thats all I know.
Of course Fender's gonna charge more cause they made it in USA too.
