This belongs to my daughter in law who`s 1st husband took it against a loan. It was left to her when he died as the loan was never repaid. has fender case 3 c strings .a receipt for one is dated 1975. serial no 600290. ONLY 200 were made 1965 to 1970. a very light scratch on back and light paint burr on horn makes this a very rare guitar in excellent condition. Would like any more info as she is hoping to sell.

God you don't see many of those do you? Here's what little I know about that axe:

5 string with a high C string and only about 16 frets.

John Paul Jones played one with Zepplin for a while.

James Jamerson also had one that he played on a few Motown tracks. I can't tell you exactly which ones but I suspect "What's Going On" since with the exception of one C# you can play the entire thing in first position on a 4. Granted I play a 6 so everything on that tune I can play in first position.

These short-scale 5-string basses were also available with a bound maple fretboard featuring black binding and blocks. They don't lasted so long.

In an attempt to wring towards the unused factory stock, CBS launched the Swinger/Musiclander, which was made up from left-over parts of a Bass V.

The Swinger's headstock design was later adopted on the Performer and Katana models.

FYI: The Fender Bass V was not short scale, it was a 34"scale bass. The neck only had 15 frets so it was "short" in that sense, but it was and is a big bass to deal with.

When these basses came out most bass speakers and amps had a difficult time replicating a low E note so that is why they decided to go for the high C string and not a low B.
