Hello:
To make a long story short, I'm trying to fit a MIK Squier II P Bass maple neck onto a new/used body (the old body is shot). I would like to put it on a Jazz body, but the P bass neck heel width measures 2 6/16 " wide. I seem to be finding that 2 1/2 or even 2 7/16 wide is the norm on anything made anywhere by anybody. Did Fender at some point make a MIK Squier II Jazz Bass that had the same size neck cavity heel width? Sure would like to use the neck. It's high varnished maple in nice shape with a skunk stripe in the back. Serial Number on the headstock reads E977743. Thanks for any help

You can fit a neck onto any body if you are willing to modify the body cavity.

I would not modify the neck itself for strength aand appearance issues.

USA Fender necks were and maybe still are interchangable between P and J basses.

I played a Precision neck on my Jazz bass for years.

Thanks for the reply. I get the impression that the Korean made Fender Squier II P Neck is smaller in heel width by anywhere from 1/16 to 1/8 of an an inch compared to anyone else's neck. It fits really sloppy in a body that is 2 7/16 ' wide in the cavity. So the only solution I can see (without mods to a regular 2 7/16" width cavity body to take up the difference like shims and stuff) is to find a Korean made Squier II Jazz body with the smaller cavity size (if they ever made one). It looks like it is going to be slow and painful process to track all this down....oh well. I thought this was going to be easy, but unless you stick with the made in USA gear, the sizes are all over the place (world).
I sure would like to use that neck on a Jazz bass.
Thanks again for your help.

I would'nt be worried about the body too much, many of the Korean Squiers have fiberboard bodies(multiple pieces of scraps glued together, opposed to solid real pieces of wood).
Before learning bass repair I bought a new neck from allparts and it did'nt fit the pocket because of being to large, little did I know that it was a GOOD thing, sanding a neck down to fit makes for a better fit,the wood lossed is minimal and does not affect the necks physical structure one bit,a small amt of sanding equally on each side back and forth checking every few passes will make a seemingly oversized neck fit in nice and tight.
It may seem like a lot to sand but you will be surprised how little is sanding requiered to attain the correct sizing.
Go slow and check often, its one of the few alterations a newbie can do with little exp. if your not handy then bring it to someone, but if you can set up a bass then this is a piece of cake.
