I've thought about it, the Jaguar was probably one of the most successful non-Precision or Jazz designs that Fender ever had. Why not bring it back and make it in Mexico -- so it would still be cheap? Fender USA could refine the specs and finally pick the colors instead of just importing whatever Japan was making. Mexico's been making some pretty solid models lately and the Jaguar bass needs to make a return!

spoiler alert, Fender not making money on a certain line so they discontinue the line...why don't people buy it when it's available?? Believe it or not, if the Jag is not making money for Fender, there isn't a reason to make it in Mexico, or anywhere else - the point for Fender is to make money. Squier incidentally makes 3 kinds of Jags. Cheaper than ever before and it's a decent quality for 3 bills.

The MIM Jaguar Bass would be a Blacktop.

I've started a thread for the Blacktop Jaguar Bass a couple of weeks ago:

I'm pretty sure that the Jaguar bass is still being made in Japan. Fender USA just chooses not to import it. I don't know if that decision was based on lack of sales or not.

For the record... The Squire MIM Jag Basses really suck in comparison to the 'real' Fender Jag Basses. Not only do they feel lighter and cheaper, they don't sound anywhere near as good mainly because they removed the preamp on the Squire models.

I own a Fender Jag and have played it side by side with the Squires and there is no comparison. My bass has such a wide range of options and sounds that I prefer it over pretty much any other basses I've played including Js and Ps.

Most stores are now out of stock on the Jags and even the online retailers seemed to be sold out when I was looking for mine. They only had the white one.

I got lucky. The Jag rules. They should bring it back.

i've never tried the fender version but i can imagine it's much better, comparing a Squier to a fender is like comparing a tree to a twig- correct me if i'm wrong but all fender's are far superior.

saying that the Squier Jag, for it's price, is brilliant. it's a great bass to upgrade and has Split/ single pickup layout which i much prefer to the Single/ single on the Fender

i vote for a Blacktop Jag with lots of chrome, lots of black, split/ single pickups and sidemounted input jack :P

@14BlazingBlue - Totally agree on all fronts.
especially the sidemounted input jack. Maybe this is sacrilegious, but I've never like front facing jacks. It's my one and only complaint about my beloved Jag.

The Squier Jaguar Special basses use a side-mounted jack.

For some reason Fender sent out a link to map out the controls on the Jaguar bass. I wonder what that means.
