I'm thinking about getting a mustang from fender japan.

you can see it here: http://www.fenderjapan.co.jp/fender/2007fender/mustangbass.htm

First of all, what do you think? I want it it the OTM color.
Secondly, does anyone know if this model has ever been sold in the US?

Thanks!

For those who don't already know, we can no longer buy Fender Japan instruments to be shipped overseas.

I found out today, and it completely crushed my spirit. Now I have to find some other way of buying it.

The mustang reissue sounds abosolutely great i tried it out at Gutiar Center and its great for a short scale and not that there is anything wrong with short scales. Go ahead and grab yourself one of the Mustang '65 reissues they are great.

I own both a Fiesta Red Mustang Re-issue & an Olympic White one. They are both fantastic. I've been a Precision player for years, but I've developed wrist problems & tried one of these because it's short scale & light weight. I was amazed at how good the Seymour Duncan Mustang pick-ups sound. It's just as good as any Precision I own & a heck of a lot easier on my back! The only 2 colors you can get in the USA are the two I have (white & red) Which is a shame. Fender needs to wake up here! We need more colors & we need the competition Mustang Bass available in the USA! also, I hardly see these in stores! I bought mine mail order from Musician's Friend! More visibility would mean more sales. If a competition Mustang bass was offered for sale tommorrow, I'd buy it. Especially in metal flake blue with a white stripe/ wht pearl pickguard!! C'mon Fender! Let us in on these beautiful basses!!

The Mustang basses are definitely made in Japan. I had a 51 RI that was made in Japan but mine was over 10 years old. I'm not sure about the current models.

I just bought one and gigged with it tonight, WOW!!! So easy to play and GREAT tone. The pickups could be stronger but I just turned up my amp. Are there pickup upgrades available? That being said, I believe I have found my bass! -J

The pickups in the Mustang RI are Seymour Duncans. They are the best you can get. They might need a slight adjustment to get them closer to the strings perhaps, but I find my Mustang pickups to be as powerful as the ones in my P Bass.

Ditto here. No complaints whatsoever about my Mustang's stock pickup. It's a beautiful little bass that sounds a bit like a P-Bass right out of the box.

I can't find anywhere that these are Seymour Duncan pickups on the Mustang bass. Is the Mustang RI different? I still love it!!!

i'm pretty sure they're not duncans.

from fender's own specs:

I would love to have a Mustang, it's a step up from my Musicmaster bass which I love too.

However I did have to replace the pickups in my Musicmaster a couple years ago after the original just quit on the E string, A was getting weak. I put in a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound? something that is way stronger than the original.

I just played a Mustang at GC last week, loved it.

I agree with the earlier post the Mustang really needs to be offered in more colors. Hey I have an idea how about a Highway One Mustang bass?
