That Marshall is sweet but I'd want the SuperBass head on a pair of 2x15 cabs.

Meanwhile, back in the real world of amps I can actually move. Carvin Micro and Line 6 Studio 110. Check em.

thanks for the tips guys, all of this is going down in my notepad of everything bass. slightly of topic here but just some quick questions to satisfy my curiosity:
1) is their any realy diffence between a bass head and a guitar head? some bass players use guitar heads along with bass cabs (Stanley Clarke used one at some point in his career aparently)
2) which companies do the best power amps for 80's/00's Metal? (i.e Maiden/Avenged Sevenfold)
3) can you use a multi effects pedal with full EQ (e.g boss's series) in place of a preamp?

this has nothing to do with what i'm buying, more future reference

1. Yes! The EQ/preamp voicing is different most usually. In solid state or hybrid Class A/B amps the transformers often are heavier duty. Lift a 40 watt Fender solid state guitar amp and then a 40 watt Fender solid state bass amp. Bass amp will be heavier. Tube amps are more interchangeable. In fact the Marshall Superbass tube head is just a Marshall guitar head rebadged.

2. Good question. Metal calls for high power. Ampeg SVT Tube Classic, Marshall Superbass, Sunn 2000S, Fender's new 300 watt Bassman, Fender Bassman 300 Pro or it's predecessor the Sunn 300T, Ashdown ABM. Any high power tube head. Good alternative would be a high powered hybrid of say 600 to 900 watts with about sixteen 10" speakers, that's two 8x10 refrigerator cabs or stack four 4x10 cabs.

3. Yes. On amps with a jack for POWER AMP IN or with an effects send/receive jack array you certainly can. In fact Tech21 recommends doing precisely that with their Bass Driver pedals and Deluxe pedal boards. You should also do that with a Line 6 Bass Pod. If you don't have a POWER AMP IN jack or effects send/receive jacks then set the EQ FLAT as possible. That isn't always what looks to be flat as most bass amp EQ arrays are biased toward emphasizing bass even when you think they are set flat. A few notable exceptions are Peavey and Fender's 60's/70's Bassman heads. I can't say if you can do Boss floor preamps that way or not. I don't use any Boss products now and only used a Boss pedal tuner briefly as I didn't like it much because I found it too hard to get used to. I sent it back and bought a Fender rack tuner I absolutely LOVE, discontinued now of course. I'm glad I got it when I did. You should be able to read about that in the Boss Floorboard manual.

MARSHALL MB4410 = 112+ pounds. Fender Rumble 150 = 55 pounds. That is a huge weight difference.

I was not talking about the combo, but the Superbass head. The MB series isn't quite the same.

True both used aria pro 2 sb 1000 basses if I'm allowed to say that on here. Which are are great equal to any fender USA bass even though they made in Japan .

I know this is an old thread, but back to bass amps, Fender's Rumble line can't be beat for price & quality. Just pick the one that suits your needs. The tone is there, and plenty of it. And yes, I am the happy owner of a Rumble 75 Combo. You can check out my threads on the 'Bass Amps' sub-forum if you'd like.

never underestimate a Fender Rumble... it's the first bass amp I've ever played on, made my old crappy bass sound good...

for fun and practice as well I'd recommend Line 6 Studio 110, it's not really that perfect sounding, I had one at home for practice and among the settings.. I often use the R&B settings...
