For me, it's hard to beat my 2001 American Jazz (and it's Aquamarine Metallic). But, my '87 Jazz Bass Special comes close. I often switch back and forth.

J pickups, J neck, P body and vintage style reverse tuners.

I hope Fender does an American bass like this in the future ....

Squier already did a five-string P-Bass Special with J pickups.

Wow, I never saw that from Squier. Pretty nice - and different.

I absolutely love my American Standard Jazz bass. It is without question the most beautiful, and sweet, and easy bass to play.
But I am a P-bass player. My Highway One P weighs a ton, at least to me it does and I already have non-bass related neck and shoulder problems. 95% of the time I play it sitting down, whereas the Jazz is less than 8.5 lbs and I can tolerate that for hours standing. So I have come to the conclusion that I need to get a nice lightweight American Standard P-bass very soon. Probably black and maple, maybe white/rosewood.

And a Ric.

My Power Jazz Bass Special is over 9 lbs...the vm is a little heavier, and the '99 is the lightest...never weighed it, but can tell for sure is the lightest of all the electrics.

I remember the 5 string Squier, but it's somewhat different than what I described.

I'm thinking Fender version of G&L JB-2 or Yamaha BB 350...

If you wait long enough, fjbass will be trading and buying more basses you may get a bargain.

Zod, Pittsburgh Craigslist had a red fireglo Ric for $1100. :)

Go buy the American Standard Precision, you deserve it.

I love the Jazz bass. I swore by my Ibanez for years, until I picked up my Fender Jazz bass. Now I am blown away by the great tone and playability of this bass. Now I'm all like, "Ibanez who?", This is one great bass.
