That's awesome, but that is not a US based telephone #, not a current area code (3 digits) + 7 digits for the #.

Great pictures!

To my knowledge, Fender never had a manufacturing facility anywhere near Chicago.

The Fender logo on the tuners looks like no Fender logo I've ever seen.

The engraving on the neck plate looks like no Fender neckplate I've ever seen.

I don't think Fender ever used a Strat-style pickup switch on a bass other than the recent Tony Franklin signature model.

I'm not aware of any Fender bass with both Precision and Jazz pickups and only two knobs, unless they're concentric pots (like on an old "stack-knob" Jazz bass).

The truss rod adjustment nut looks like a rotary type. I don't think Fender ever used these.

"George Fender" seems to be a combination of George Fullerton and Leo Fender, who worked together from the early days at Fender and decades later formed G&L Guitars together (G&L = George and Leo).

I do not think that bass a genuine Fender product and I'll guess it was made in Asia.

Yeah, I agree with George's posting this is an overseas knock off--a poor one at that, or someone making a "fender" bass from whatever parts they had. Does it sound/play OK? The neckplate engraving is very poor quality. Definitely no such thing as a Fender III bass.

Was DiMarzio around in 1972?

That's not a Sunburst either!
