So, luckily I was able to pick up a Jaguar Bass in December '09, but since then I haven't been able to find them on the Guitar Center site, or any other for that matter.

Any idea if these are going to be coming back on the market again?

Hmmm? Strange? Odd? I have not heard anything.
FWIW they are still shown on the Fender website.

Squier has a pair of Vintage Modified Special Jaguar basses with the choice of PJ or single humbucker pickups and active electronics.

They're not a definitive discontinuation of the Jaguar Bass but an updated version of the existing models. I think they're going to offer a Fender-brand version of this Squier Vintage Modified Jag Special with the single Music Man humbucker in the bridge.

yeah, Squier have done a re-issue of the jaguar without the silly little toggles the fender version had, it's an amazing bass; especialy considering you can get one for just under £200

DISCONTINUED?? There's more models now than ever, they are like a foreign species introduced into an area not native to them, they killed all the original basses and.....SORRY! got a little ahead of myself, good basses they are.

They are still in production and for sale in Japan. They are not being distributed in North America anymore. A couple of reasons for that.

Weak US Dollar versus the Yen being the main reason less and less Japanese basses in general will be available in the USA. By the time they got them to North America these days they'd cost about the same as an American Standard by the time you bought a case. That one I'm sure about, but the following reasons are just speculation.

The speculative reasons are the instrument is a warranty nightmare with all the switches, thumbwheel pots and preamp. The North American warranty is much stronger than in other regions.

FMIC wanted to sell more American Specials.

The Jaguar is a labor intensive thus expensive instrument to make.

Fender japan is far superior in labor intensive anything in the guitar industry(will leave all the other possible situations out)I (IMO)believe that with all the bells and whistels the bass has its hard on the player to dial in a specific tone on the fly while trying to play the bass and figure the controls out at the same time.
I heard neg press about the complexity of the ellectronics and nothing to do w/fit and finish, they are praised for that aspect of them,I played a couple and feel like its tone could be achieved with a good jazzbass and some tinkering of the electronics(not my strong suit)The few I worked on were void of many of the switches and rolling nobs and were much more simplistic in design and their unique tones they were becoming famous for were able to be salvaged and the classic "Fender tone" was now present.
Check on e-bay,there are alot of stores by some of the sellers that still have them,I also saw a few on clearence for like 599.00$ last wk or so.

As I know it, they moved all the Jaguar Bass lineup to Squier. Only Fender-Japan still shows the Jaguar Bass (the one with two J pickups on it, Squiers have J+P configuration, or the bridge 'bucker) on their site.
