Hi Leftys

Fender has done through the years gotten better at providing left handed players with more models and colours of their guitars. That being said, unless you want to drop 3 or 4 grand on a custom shop left handed guitar will you get some of the other standard models in the Fender line(southpaw guitars as an example). I understand that the left handed market is perhaps a small market to build for, but it seems that enough guitar companies have seen the light in the past 30 years and have been making them since the world population has grown, hence the added number of lefty players.

Fender Japan has done a nice job with making left handed models of the Jazz basses but at a premium price if you figure in customs and shipping. They have even made the Jaguar bass in lefty, but for some reason haven't followed up on making the recently re-introduced mustang bass for righties in a left handed version. I figured since they are both being made in Mexico and Japan, why hasn't Fender come out with a left handed version re-introduced as well?

Its at the lower end of the spectrum as far as price range and would satisfy alot of beginner left handed bass players as well as us guitar players who dabble in bass for writing and recording songs. I, myself play a Jazz for the sheer fact that the neck is smaller in width at the end for my hands. I do remember Fender briefly making a p-bass junior(I think) in lefty, but it seemed like a toy rather than an actual bass.

So, I thought, why not try to drum up some interest from left handed players who would love a short scale bass with the Fender name on it. If I get enough traffic here, maybe the Fender heads would perhaps take notice and authorize a run in Japan or Mexico. So, lefties, sound off on why Fender should make a left handed Fender Mustang bass.

thanks
Beatle Jim

I love my lefty Mustang bass. It's been my main axe for 30 years. That little bit of less weight made a difference for me by the time the last set of the night came around.

It records great, plays fast and very nice if you like sneaking some bass chords in during your normal bass lines. That smaller neck makes notes easier to reach without having to stretch too much.

I'd like to see lefty Mustangs back in US production for sure.

Hi MD
Yeah, you would think that with the Hofner Beatle bass and Beatle bass copies selling quite well, that Fender would get the hint that a short scale bass lefty to build would be a no brainer. Heck, I'd settle for a Bronco and let it go at that. I may even buy the Hofner Icon series cheapie just to have a short scale bass.
But oh well...you would think with the internet and left handed players on a global scale that Fender would have made lefty mustang basses when they re-introduced the bass as a righty. And the fact that Fender Japan as well Mexico are still making them(right handed) and Fender is still marketing them, they must be selling quite well.
But like I said, maybe enough interest or maybe an e-mailing campaign might convince them to make one again. Problem is, alot of guitar players dont come or even know about the Fender lounge. So somehow I'd have to start some type of blog that could be found in a search. Food for thought.

regards
Beatle Jim

I've been searching everywhere for a left-handed Mustang bass for over a year now. They're so rare, I've never actually seen one for sale. A reissue would be absolutely amazing.

:) :) :) Since lefties are in their "right" mind, I'm not sure they're allowed to be bass players. :P (truly, not intended to be mean)

Being a lefty myself, a former MIM Jazz owner, and currently play a Rogue VB100 Beatle bass copy, I can assure you that if there was a short scale Fender or Squier available I'd be the first to grab one. Right now, I'm looking at the Squier VM 70s Jazz, but because I'm so used to the shorter neck would go right to the Mustang. A choice of colors would be nice, but since we're all so used to the limitations left-handers are offered, a couple of nice ones would suffice.

So Fender, what say? Limited run, perhaps? I've got the money in my hot, little, left handed hand!

I wish fender made more left handed everything... It would make my life so much easier :/

I really want to pick up bass, but I don't want to get a p or j bass... idk why, just it seems to me as everyone has them, call me a hipster XD

also short scales are the best :D

Yes the market is very small. The Mustang isn't a top seller by far and a left handed version would sell much less. BUT, it just isn't fair to the left handed players to be so limited in their selection. I can see them having to pay a little more, but not giving them any option at all is like discrimination.
