Dear friends,

I thought writing to you is my last chance to solve my problem since i cannot find ANYTHIN on the net!

I am owner of a 92 model Urge bass I (USA) green color.

I need to replace the 2 pots because as my technician told me that are almost damaged.
The pots date production is 1990. It is CTS brand.

The volume and tone POT is a double one and the other is TRIPLE one.

I really cannot find anywhere to buy. I sent emails, i almost emailed anyone who can help me but nothing until now.

I would appreciate any kind of help ,that would lead me to a solution.

This bass has a sentimental value for me, except from being an excellent instrument.

Thank you in advance
Menelaos

Menelaos,

I'm not technical but if you can't find any help, try looking for a post by BrotherDave, go to his signature, there is a link to his site. He might be able to shed a light on your issue. Email him, he is always very helpful and replies to the email quite quickly. Good luck! I had a V1 Urge awhile back, fuscia (sp?) in color.

Yes my friend. i already looked up his site. He is a good one. I could find the front panel adjustments for my Urge bass. So old and so magic.

I had lost mine for some years ago!

I will try to email him.

thank you so much

Did you find your pots? What was the problem? How did you fix it?

I have a Fender Urge 1 (1993) that has a distortion when I play at higher volumes. It's not an amplifier problem. My tech and me narrowed it down to the bass. The bass distorts when I turn up the volume knob. Could be the pots or the pre-amp. Not sure right now.

Any suggestions on how to get it fixed?

I haven't gotten an email that I recall. In addition to the control diagram these came with a schematic because it is so unique. You may need to email Fender Consumer Relations to get one and also a Parts List. The parts list will have the Fender Part Numbers on it. You'll probably need both.

If you can't find the correct replacements there is an alternative. Pots can often be repaired, even ganged ones, by someone who knows exactly how to restore them. This would involve removing parts such as the ceramic wafer or shaft from a new single pot of equal value and moving it to the ganged pot. This is a tedious and time consuming process.

This is a very complicated and sensitive tone circuit. If it can not be repaired it can be replaced with an aftermarket preamp and new controls. I wouldn't give up too easily as I'm sure it can be repaired by someone who really knows what they are doing. A repair job would be beyond the scope of what many techs are capable of doing.
