I purchased an oddball fender bass last week. It is a (bright?) red Prodigy bass, with 2 pickups. It appears in excellent condition overall. I vaguely recall these instruments being on sale in the early 1990s, but know almost nothing about them. It is far lighter than my precision bass, but has a nice unique sound.

Does anyone know anything about these instruments?

The Prodigy series was Fender's attempt to compete with other major companies such as Jackson and Charvel. These instruments were made at the Ensenada factory in Baja California, Mexico.

Along with the JP90 and the Cowpoke, the Prodigy Bass was among the several late 1980s-early 1990s Fender basses to feature the weird Kubicki active electronics.
