I have a 68 telecaster bass that I've owned since 71. The old pick guard crumbled into about a thousand pieces. Maybe it was mad that I'd been playing a jazz bass for a long time afterward. Any ideas on where I can find replacement pick guard?

Did you purchase this instrument in Colorado Springs via a newspaper ad? I'm curious because that's when I sold mine.

But now a question about holes. I've seen ones with 7, and ones with 11 holes. Which was which, and where can I get an exact replica replacement for my '68 that's being restored right now? I suspect the 11-hole versions were the 3-ply, PVC versions? Is my assumption correct?

The seven hole pick guards were never used on the 68-72 Tele basses. They are from the original Precision bass design and were used in later reissues of the orig precision bass, like the Sting bass and other Japanese as well as custom shop versions of the orig p-bass.

The Tele bass first version had the 11-hole guards weather it was single-ply, reactive plastic or triple ply rough edge plastic.

The easy way to tell is the Original Precision only had three screws going from the control plate to the upper horn tip where a Tele bass will have 4 screws along the same edge.
Good luck with the restoration and have fun playing it!
