I have a 1977 Left Handed Mustang Antigua finished bass. I bought it used in 1981. I was told by a Fender licensed guitar tech that it was one of eight that were made. Has anyone else seen one?

Here's a couple pics, John. I can take better shots if requested.

Back in 1981, Dan Torres from Torres Engineering told me that this bass was one of eight Mustangs made with the custom Antigua finish. The problem was that he informed me of this AFTER he did the pickup mods. Dimarzio HB for the neck pickup, and a Bill Lawrence for the bridge. I didn't bother me so much then, but it does now. The bass sounds great, but I wouldn't have modified it if I had known this ahead of time. The Mustang has had plenty of stage time since 1981.

That thing is awesome! Thanks for posting the pics.
What a treasure to have!
I love the dark rosewood fingerboard too. Please post a pic of the back if you get a minute. Thanks for sharing.

Yours is the first I have seen. If there were only 8, yours might be the only one still around.

Thanks John, I mean Michael! The Mustang thanks you too. A bit worn on the back, but the frets and neck are in great shape. Using flats for many years made a big difference to extend the fret life.

Thanks for the awesome shots. I wish I had an older instrument. I love the natural relic-ing of a well-loved axe. Adds so much character. Your Mustang is beautiful.

I use flats, too. Roundwounds are too bright for me. I have heard that flats extend fret life. What kind of flats are you using on it?

Thanks again. I usually use GHS bright flats, medium gauge. Sometimes switch to a light gauge, but they are not normally stocked where I am.

The flats are nice for recording and the Mustang records very well with consistent tone from bottom to top.

You know, a lot of people seem to not like the Antigua finish--but I love it--great looking bass, thanks for posting it.

LOL ! The blushing on the back must be from a red stage shirt I used to wear 20+ years ago. I didn't notice until you pointed that out.

If you can post a pic of your '69 Lefty Mustang, I'd sure like to see it!

Hi you lucky B

You have a coveted lefty mustang bass. Im trying to drum up enough support in my post on this forum to have Fender do a production run of this bass in a left handed version via either Japan or Mexico. There shouldn't be any reason why Fender at the very least couldn't re-produce a lefty version of the Mustang bass. Where are we living in, Russia? (if so, wouldn't they want this bass too?)
Why cant they produce this awesome bass for us lefties? You mean its only good enough to do re-productions for righties? What era are we living in? Is making money a thing of the past? The market is there my friends.

A lefty beat to hell mustang bass went for 1.500 bucks at southpaw guitars and a rather average lefty musicmaster bass on ebay went for 900 bucks? Your trying to tell me that there isnt a market for a short scale bass "FENDER" bass in lefty? Be it a Musicmaster or Mustang or at the very least a Bronco model? WAKE UP FENDER!!!!!!!Us leftys want a quality short scale bass that you already make in righty!!! Whats the problem?!!!
