Hey Rez, the Bassdriver was the best piece of equipment I ever bought, wouldn't think of not having one. I was hard into John Entwistle and getting into Geddy Lee when I researched articles about them, SansAmp kept coming up, the rest is history. I would not hesitate at all in recommending their products, once you try one you'll be hooked too.

Rev J, sounds like a good choice to me. I'm an impulse buyer, when I see something I want, I buy it, if I have the cash of course. I never even bothered to see if there was anything between the Bassdriver and the RBI. If I had it to do over, I'd get the one you decided on.

Once I get the Amp fixed I'm going to look on line for schematics I have an Idea that I'd like to build a dual band compressor running a tube compressor to fatten up the lows and a FET compressor to tighten the highs and tame transients a little. I had one of the Digitech pedals and the thing was noisy as $@!& and didn't have full controls (Level, Attack, Decay, Ratio, etc.) Since I've learned about audio I'm kind of a control freak about that $@!&. That combo of elements should put a little hair on the GK. I think I'd also throw in a Parametric EQ probably tube to warm it up a little more and give me the ability to tune the rig to the rooms I'd be playing in. The Idea I had is that since I have a Boss RC20xl in my pedal board I'd make a loop of the bass going from the lowest note to the highest on the neck and while it was playing back adjust the parametric to take out obnoxious frequencies. There is no such thing as a flat room. Using that combination of equipment I should be able to get a consistently "Good" sound as opposed to a consistent sound.

Peace Out,
Rev J

I'll look into it this fall/winter, maybe spring/summer I'll dive right in. I'm so old school, I go direct bass to amp, the only pedal I've used is the compressor, but the head I have have a compressor and it does the job I need so no more pedal (sold in '94). Thanks for the recommendation Ox!

Rev J,

Sounds like you're looking for the sound a Palmer Tube Emulator can e=re-produce , both Jonn and Geddy used and/ or use them in their racks along with the RBI, keep it up, we'll be looking to buy RevJ special effects and processors in the future.

Rez,

Never say never. I learned my lesson on that. Old school is, well, old school. With all the goodies out there it's hard not to take advantage of technology.

The best thing about my Bassdriver is:

I can reproduce my sound exactly the same under any condition and in any room. It's amazing. Go down to Guitar Center and try one, get them all worked up thinking you're gonna buy one, lol.

I know what you mean and I feel your pain. I've found the best time to get there is as soon as the doors open. With my whacked out schedule, I can do that. For what GC could be, it's a joke, too bad it's the only game in town.

Why is it that the people that can play always are at lo volume? It is kind of funny to see the little kids with their little girlfriends who are sooooooooo impressed.

I had a good experience one morning, I had an American Standard Precision plugged into a big Acoustic when someone out in the store was playing a guitar, "I heard it through the grapevine", so I joined in, we did the whole song, cat was good, I think he just wanted to see how far I'd go. By the time I got out to see who it was, he was gone. My friendly salesman said he never saw him before.

That's one of about three really good experiences I've had there out of probably 60 or so.

I've had 1 good experience there...now I only go to my local store, which has a lot of guitar/basses/acoustic guitars & basses, but not accessories. I would have to order if I want anything. Hey, but the people there aren't a bunch of tools like a lot @ the mega stores.

I was Joking about calling the company "Ghetto $@! Electronics". There is a company that makes a "Really Nice Compressor". I was thinking it would be funny to have a "Ghetto $@! Compressor". It has more gold in it than Flavor Flavs mouth.

My philosophy on equipment is like my philosophy on music kind of taking the best of the past and the present which will be the past soon enough.

Does anybody here remember how they used to have the Hartke ads on the back cover of "Guitar for the Practicing Musician" with Jack Bruce, Will Lee, Tom Hamilton, and Stu Hamm standing in front of amp stacks with a GK head and like a 1x15, a 4x10, and a 2x10 Hartke cab behind them.

Anyway I think I got off topic.

Peace Out,
Rev J

Yeah I do...I saw the add on the back of Bass Guitar or Bass Player mag back in the day...a few days later I went with my best friend to a music store in Scranton, Pa - south side - there it was. I tried it, not to keen on how it sounded, the sales guy wouldn't let me touch the settings on the bass :D Fast forward a few years later, I was prolly his best customer.

Hmmm. I've had a GK 700RB-II for five years that I used with an old 4x10 GK cab and everything was great. I recently upgraded the cab to a GK Neo 2x12 with horn and am running it in bi-amp mode. It rattles the plates three doors down, gets nice and growly when coaxed and I've not had any issues with it. I love it.

As for a dream bass, I've come to realize that every bass has limitations, issues and high points. I'm rather happy with what I have.

Fretless,

My experience with GK was so bad it would take an act of God for me to consider another one. It wasn't just the one I owned, I tried a couple others out and was disappointed in them too.

If you got one you're happy with (and it doesn't eat fuses) I'm glad for you. I always preach, try a whole bunch before you buy, I just hit a bad streak of luck with GK, I guess.

I never spent my money on GK due to a few bassist in the NE that did used them had the issues Ox had mentioned, like kept replacing fuse(s). But I have heard the live on stage when working properly, sounds awesome.
