Got a 2006 cs vi.
Tone sounds like a duck.
By a "ducky" tone, I mean like the tone a strat gets when the selector switch is 2nd position from the bridge.

My VI, overall, has this gargly tone, no matter what pup or tone adjustment used.

I am not used to jag shaped bodies as I am a P baseman, which I consider to be a neutral tone.

Do your VI's sound this way? Is it normal?

Hi, I've had a Bass VI since 1970 and it still sounds perfect. The sound can be adjusted to produce what is frequently called the "tic tac" sound and is often heard on '60s music and the Beach Boy sound. I like it as it stands out from the "boom" which often blows the rest of the band away. If you want to lose the tic tac, just knock the treble control off and the middle control down 50% and the bass control up 50%. After that it's a matter of taste. The other consideration is which strings you use. If you are using roundwounds then your sound will be "twangy" but if you use "flats" it'll become more mellow and punchy. Personally, I use my VI as a bass guitar and therefore use Picato flats with the following gauges from bottom E to top E = 95-80-60-50-45-30 I had these strings custom made for me and they are the best I've tried, for playing bass of course.
