Would be good to see photos and get more descriptive information.
Instructions on how to post photos on the forum is posted in section 3 of this link: http://brotherdave.com/add_comm.htm

Describe any wear, damage, modifications, known issues or missing pieces like bridge/pickup covers, string ferules, any parts replacement, pickup replacement or rewinding, refinishing, etc. Also the original case and it's condition adds value.

The better the condition the higher the sale price should be. Around here I'd expect a hacked up one with modifications to bring $1100 to $1800 while I'd expect a "Closet Classic" condition 68 Telecaster Bass to bring 3,000 to 4,500 dollars. These are prices paid in sales where an individual buys from a vintage dealer who often is selling on a consignment basis.

In private sales where the owner sells directly to the buyer the sale price is generally lower since there is no commission going to the consignment dealer. One example of that type sale would be eBay.

Generally I recommend a thorough appraisal or even a photo appraisal from a noted vintage authority such as George Gruhn of Gruhn Guitars. The appraiser may also offer to sell it on consignment for you, but be informed up front that while the instrument may appraise at one value it will actually sell for a percentage of the appraisal value and not for 100% of the appraisal value. The appraisal serves to authenticate the instrument as genuine more than anything else which reassures potential buyers who will likely pay more since it is authenticated as genuine.

The figures I've offered are very rough estimates based on my location in the central Carolinas USA and recent regional asking prices and actual sale prices. Your local value will vary. Generally vintage instruments bring higher prices in large US music centers like LA, NYC and Nashville where top professional players who desire and can afford such instruments congregate. These are also places where collectors watch the market. Instruments bring even higher prices in international music centers in Europe where the instruments are even more rare than in the USA.

Like the rest of the economy, the vintage instrument market has been dead lately but is starting to show some signs of life. Still it is not where it was even three short years ago. I would advise holding onto it a bit longer for the economic situation to improve. Five years ago the vintage market was teaming with investors, many of whom were foreign, that were buying up vintage instruments as investments. Then the demand for vintage instruments went down and some investors were left holding instruments that had lost a lot of value and these investors are not going to return until the values rise substantially. In my opinion now is the best time to buy a vintage instrument, but not to sell one.
