I was wondering if any other peops would buy a Fender Tele Bass RI if Fender made one.

The bass I had seemed so slick... Maple neck, blond body, single humbucker (IIRC), tall stems on the machines (or perhaps the tele-style headstock made the stems seem taller), HSC with lock.

I'd only be interested if made in US. It seems like it would be a fairly simple project once all the research was complete.

Any others interested in this slick old bass?

I would but I'd want it with the single coil like they made it in the late 60s. I'd have no problem is it if it was MIM though. As a matter of fact, price wise, I'd prefer it. Obviously, YMMV.

There is a good Squire version of the humbucker equipped Telecaster bass out right now.
I played one the other day and it compares favorably with my original 1973 Telecaster bass.

I think you should check one out.

The two differences from the original are that they added a front arm contour to the body and the bridge as two brass saddles instead of steel saddles.

It's a very nice bass for the price.

As far as a singel coil Telecaster bass reissue goes , the problem is that it was a reissue of the original Precision Bass and Fender is making the Sting bass, the Japanese made Slab bodied original precision bass and the Squire 50's bass that is like a 1954 Precision.

I think they have that design covered.

Sounds like these models are worth investigating. Thanks for the tips!

I think we should dig up old topics and put them back at the top if they are interesting. This one is my contribution. I think Fender should make Tele lbasses again- like the ones in the 60's and 70's- ash bodies-

IMO there should be an American Standard version of the 1st generation Precision. Maybe offer a rosewood fingerboard option.

You know---- that is a good idea too. A well crafted 1st gen USA non- custom shop- non special-- non everything- just a good old USA first gen P bass in more that 2 colors with fresh electronics and some updates for sound that match modern times.

Oh yea baby! I had one and it was the coolest bass ever... maple neck ash body and single humbucker... If Fender built it as it was in 1968, I'd have to have it!!!!!!! 8)

I don't have a gen one single coil, but I do have a near mint 72 humbucker. I like it a lot. Brother Dave has a gen one in his pick. I will, still looking.

I think both would be worth a short run reissue.

I could say ditto to my post of 3 years ago.
Fender makes a lot of very close versions of the Tele bass, although not exact, the following are close: Sting Bass, Mike Dirnt signature bass, Squire Telecaster bass,
a number of Japanese reissues of the 1951 Precision bass, The Dusty Hill Signature Precision bass.

You can also order a Telecaster bass from the Custom Shop in any color and any pickup configuration that you desire.

Just ante up the bucks, my friends, and have some fun playing bass!
