I inherited this bass and I would love any information anyone might have on it. We have searched the net, and we found similar ones, but not the one that we own. We cannot locate the serial number, and do not know where it would even be. Is the drop D tuner original to the bass?

Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Here are some pictures:

By putting the address of each photo in between , you can make them appear here, like this:

That's a late '80s or early '90s "HM" Bass, just as it says on the headstock. HM stood for Heavy Metal, I believe, and Fender also made some HM guitars with pointy headstocks in the style of the day.

The Hipshot Xtender key is not original to the bass.

I'd think the serial number would be right under Fender on the front of the headstock, or maybe on the back. Perhaps someone removed it?

There were a few variations of the HM bass. Do some googling for Fender HM Bass and you'll probably find some pictures, like these:

Looks like a souped-up Precision Bass Lyte with 3 Jazz Bass pickups and a Stratocaster-style 5-way switch.

Greetings,

I am new to this forum, just wanted your bass folks to check out an extremely rare 1967 Fender bass. Go to www.ebay.com and put in this item number ************** this is a "one of a kind" Fender J-bass. Thanks for looking. Chicago Bob.

Hey Bob go away if this is all you are gonna post.
The Forums are not for you to sell your bass douche.

I just scored a slightly fancier version of this bass, and you're right, there is very little information on these interesting and very different Fender basses. Check out my thread in the lounge.
