I've been trying to find a Fender Musicmaster bass from the late 70s at a good price for several months now.

Check out this link on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... K:MEWAX:IT

Is it just me or does something not look right about that musicmaster? Looks like the wrong tuners for the headstock, the knobs look different than others, it has a white pickguard which is weird. Anybody offer any other expertise?

I'm def not an expert but in general I haven't seen too many 70's MM basses with a white pickguard, only on red ones and never on black. Not that it's not possible I just don't know for sure.

As for the tuners, they don't look much different from what was originally on the '78 MM that I have. Unfortuneately due to the corroded condition they were in when the bass was found / retrieved from the hay loft I had to replace them.

I've been looking at that one too. I'd love to have another MM... 8)

That MM bass is a transitional model, meaning it has some older features along with some newer fetures.

The knobs of all old Musicmaster basses were the same as those used on a Jazz bass, so those should be original if you have solic shaft pots on the bass.

The tuners are the one new feature on this late 1975 bass. The older Musicmaster basses had a smaller tuner that was sort of tulip shaped.

That pickup, which is a Stratocaster pickup BTW, should have a black plastic cover, but the fact that it is a guitar pickup is correct for this bass.

My red MM bass has awhite perloid PG so I think the white PG is correct for this bass, if it has the original finish.
