I think you could, but i can't see why you would want to, it wouldn't be that big an improvement over the stock one. It doesn't even look much different.
If your gonna change the bridge i recommend Gotoh or Leo Quan.

Hi; I agree with Tochai. I have used the Quan BA ll bridge on a Mexican Jazz Bass. Very good fit, and it sounded great.

The BadAss III allows for both thru-body and top-load string mounting - a serious competitor for Fender's own HMV (high-mass vintage) and LMC (locking modular convertible) bridges.

Last time I checked, the BadAss III model had inexplicably been discontinued. It no longer appears on the Leo Quan website or pricesheet. About the only new BA III's left are black or gold. Leo Quan has horrible customer support. I've emailed them twice over a badly needed part about a year ago and never heard back. They don't have a phone number. They just don't care.

The BA III won't fit a Mexican Standard P or J anyway. It has 3 screw holes while the MIM basses have 5 screw holes. They don't have body through stringing either so that feature is wasted on a MIM P or J. A BA II would work better.

I can get a lower and better playing setup easier and faster with a stock Fender bridge than with any Leo Quan Product anyway. I just had to have a BadAss III for one project where nothing else would do, which is why I was trying to contact them.

The drawbacks to the Fender bridges are height and lateral instability of the saddles. The height instability is easily remedied with a dab of clear fingernail polish on the screw threads on the bottom of the bridge saddle. The polish will break free with normal Allen wrench torque so it is a good way to solve this issue. The thread groove saddle barrels on the Fender VINTAGE bridge cures the lateral instability. I think the Vintage bridge with the thread groove saddles was a stroke of genius.

Yes Gotoh (based in Japan) makes good reasonably priced hardware, including the OEM hardware they supply for Fender Japan instruments.

The main benefit to any high mass bridge is more sustain. Everyone says they "sound better," however I do not necessarily hear better tone. What I hear with a high mass bridge is the same tone that sustains a tad longer. More sustain is not always desirable for every style of music.
