Crafted in Japan; a great addition between a bass and a regular guitar

I have been gassing for one of these for a while

How do they feel and sound? i might need to look into getting one.

EDIT: i have had a quick look around the internet and found a VI bass for £1729 and a baritone jaguar for £499 what are the big differences (apart from one being a guitar and one is a bass)

From what i have read they both have the same gauge strings, the bass had an extra pick up, is thinner at the nut and is just under two inches shorter than the baritone.

he probably got the idea from robert smith when they worked together. smith used one on almost every single cure song.

So nice and with the super quality of the CS !
I was to order one but they refused to deliver it in another color than sunburst (I mean at that price) so I dropped the idea...

Here's my old (62?) Bass VI, 63RI Reverb, Showman in combo cab, and L-series Jazzmaster (w/ Strat neck while the JM neck is being refretted) and, yes, a Buzz Stop.

I use my Bass VI a lot. It's really an instrument of untapped potential. It does more than just tic-tac twang and/or basslines, even when strung E-E. I've thought about recording an entire CD of Bass VI instrumentals in various genres and situations. Yet another project I need to get around to...

Tele 295, this is a possibility which needs exploring; instrumental melody lines played on Bass VI.

Is the Bass VI still around or discontinued and one has to find an old one? Are there both USA and MIM versions?

To the best of my knowledge the VI is a Custom Shop only piece. I wish they'd make one in the AV series or even MIM but I'm afraid that the market is pretty limited for these instruments. I've only wanted one for 40 years now. :(

Same here, Bender. 'Am now playing Bass at 5 PM Mass almost every Saturday and a VI would be good to have.

And Jack Bruce used one to good effect with Cream, too....

I so agree. I used to own one back in the 70's. I paid $200 for it in 1972. I traded it back then for a P bass. Now I want another one, but since it's only available from the custom shop at a very steep price tag of $3k I have not bought one. I had to settle for one from another manufacturer, but I'd have prefferred a Fender. It's not an everyday use instrument. It's a specialty instrument that I only use on recordings. I could not justify(to my wife) spending $3k on something that is only used on occassion.

I think Fender missed the mark on this one (& The Baritone) There is a market for both of these instruments. But the price needs to be reasonable, since they are "specialty" instruments that are not used everyday. Instead of making them high priced custom shop instruments, they should be available on limited run basis, made less expensively in Mexico. The problem why they did not sell when offered from Japan is that no-one knew they were even available. There was no marketing at all, none available to try out at high visibility stores like the guitar center, etc. I'd have bought one of each had I known they were being re-issued at affordable prices and I still would if they were reasonably priced, but $3k in a recession is not reasonable or realistic.

Yup, a MIM VI with a downright friendly price would probably sell OK and they could just do a run ever couple years, enouh to fill demand and then give it a year or two for the demand to build again before issuing another run.
