I picked up my first electric bass in the 6th grade (can't remember if it was fall of '89 or spring of '90. Regardless, it was probably built in the 80's. I owned this bass for 3 years and yet it is in none of my old photographs. What I remember about it: Fender Squier, Jet black (both body and headstock) , P-bass pickup (for sure) and (possibly) a jazz pickup by the bridge. Also, the most unique thing about this Squier was that it had a non-traditional headstock. It was shaped more like something you'd see on a Jackson or Ibanez bass. I bought the bass along with a 12" 80 watt Fender Sidekick bass amp, although I don't think they were a packaged deal, I think the store sales guy just hooked me up with both for a good price. I can't find any photos on the web of any Squier Bass that matches my discription, so now I'm wondering if I'm trippin' out on the memory of the headstock. Someone, please help!

You might try here: http://www.21frets.com/

It's a site mostly about '80s MIJ Squiers.

You are not trippin' or imagining anything. Fender made a number of unique basses in the early 90's. Some of these new designs were made under the name "Heartfield" and I think one of these basses was endorsed by Steve Bailey.

Some of these designs were rebranded Squire when Fender dropped the Hearfield line.

These are and were cool basses.

I have some old " Frontline" mags that talk about them.
