Yes!

For what they are, they perform very well and require very little maintenance like most Precisions. They are also very upgradeable which is a big plus!

I currently use my mexican made fender p-bass as my everyday workhorse. I can't tell you how many times I have dropped this bass and it still manages to stay in tune. About the only thing I have changes is to replace the pickups with Seymor Duncan Performers. This bas has been through so many gigs and is very reliable to me. I recently bought a Carvin Custom Shop 5 string bass but I still opt for that special p-bass sound. Overall, i might have my p-bass drilled to have the strings go through the body. My squier p-bass is very solid and I have heard they are made with the same materials as the American Standard series but only make in the Fender factory in Mexico.

^ what the heck? You must've had a badly set up one because mex Jazz Basses are damn fine instruments. I should know - I've played quite a few and in all honesty they don't do to badly at all when compared to my MIA J Bass.

A few hundred dollars/quid is a lot of money too.

Dude really... what the heck? I have a Mexican J and in my opinion their much faster playing then the american made j's. Maybe it's the peavey i'm running through, but I love this basses growling, funky sound, or at least I do now: I had to get it set up.

I don't know about the MIM J bass, but the MIM P bass that I play is just plain awsome. I love it, I don't know if I just got a good one by accident but it is tops with me and I have played and own a bunch of different basses through the 40 years I have been playing.

Dude you must be crazy. The Mexican made Fender basses are amazing.. They offer exceptional sound through almost any kinda of amp. Their tonal options are very good and they are one of the best Fender basses out there. The best part about them is that they are cheaper. You can find one of these basses from anywhere from 200-350 i found a beautiful Fender MIM Jazz at a pawn shop with a white pearloid pickguard for 260 with a fender hardcase!! This instrument is beautiful. The only thing that i may do in the future that is not necessary is replace the bridge and pickups. I am going to go with a Leo Quann Badass bridge that offers more stable tone and more sustain. My bass just unfortuneatly has some bad saddles so yeah. Don't even hesitate to get this if you have the money. By the way every bass looks better in person same goes with guitars too. Good luck!
