I have a Fender Stu Hamm "Urge", 4 string bass, and want to see how much it is worth in mint or even fair or poor condition. I'm not familiar with musical instruments, so I can not say much about it. I can tell you that I have found Photolink pictures on the net at the below link. These images are exactly the same thing I have with exception of the last 4 numbers of the serial number (obviously). I can also tell you that I have discovered that this particular Bass guitar is a "Mexican Signature Series - Stu Hamm". I had posted this on Yahoo answers and received information regarding the "Urge II", which is obviously incorrect.

Anything anyone can tell me about this bass would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance... Chuck

Here in the Carolinas region probably an actual value range of $350 poor to $750 in mint shape plus case if any would be figured in. That could be higher or lower depending on where you are located. This is very similar to the Precision Bass Special "Cowpoke" basses of the same vintage except it has two Jazz pickups instead of a Precision /Jazz arrangement. I like them. They are very unique.

Thanks brotherdave,

The information you provided was great, It was just what I was looking for. I was trying to figure out if I should sell it locally or on Ebay.

I'm currently located in Scranton, PA. I brought the bass to a local music shop and they told me they would buy it for $75-100. Granted, its not in the BEST of condition and I know their business is based on a "return profit". Now knowing that location plays a part, perhaps Ebay is the better way to go.

Thanks again Brotherdave,
Chuck

BTW, forgot to say WELCOME TO THE FORUM. They definitely made you a low ball offer. So long as there are no neck, fret, hardware or electronics issues, $350 would be the very least I'd take for it. The Cowpokes, which are not signature basses, in excellent condition are bringing $400 to $500. This one appears to be in average condition for the age. I'd put it on eBay.

AND when you post it on eBay I'd make sure the word "COWPOKE" was somewhere in the title and description.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Far as electronics go... I believe that one of the pickups may be broken and need replacing. I believe when wired to an AMP, you end up getting a "crackling" sound when playing with that particular pickup. This is why I was looking to see what the "Poor" condition would be worth. The guy at the music store told me that its roughly a $40-$50 part.
Far as anything else goes, needs the basic maintenance... new strings, a polish, tuned, etc.
Oh, and there is a small chip in base of the bass. Other than that... All is good... (From what the dealer told me)

Get some contact cleaner and see if you can spray the volume and tone control pots . The crackling is probably just dirt and corrosion in the pots and that can clean it up.
You may not need a pickup.

$75 to 100 bucks is low .
Guitar Center near me (washington D.C. area) has one used for $459.00.

Good luck

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that. However, I do know that the one (whether volume or tone) turns pretty freely, like it was just a piece of plastic just spinning around. (This dial is at the base of one of the pickups, like a "sub-Pickup" so to speak. The lower of the pickup. I don't know what it's called, but I will try the cleaner. I heard that even if it is broken, It might be better to keep its original there as a new one may lower the value.

If the knob is spinning freely, check if there is a set screw! It may just need to be tightened OR it might have actually fallen out, both of which does happen.
