i bought a jaguar bas about 2 years ago. i love its sound, if used in passive mode. so i bypassed the whole active circuit and took it from there.
however: i noticed that all notes on the d-string are considerably less loud and less strong than the others. i experimented with string gauges (always daddario), but the results were the same.

has ayone else had the same problem? ideas for solutions?

thanx!

Check your bass for a loose "D" machine head. Any tuner can work loose and be a tone soak for that particular string.

I would also check the frets ans neck to make sure that you are not getting a choked string from a high fret/ warped neck.

Other than those sugg.- I don't really know whats wrong.

great suggestions. but none of the above apply here. I checked it all. strangely th edifference in volume (and bass) is biger when played with a pick, played with finger either there is no difference, or I level it out by plying harder subconsciously.

Definately have your local guitar shop check it out, Could be the neck, could be the bridge or the white nut that holds the strings in place at the top of your neck. Could be a bad string could be a few things. Let a bass tech at a guitar shop check it out and go from there. Should be an easy fix either way 8)

had it at the store. th eguy ( avery good technician) said it was noticeable, but only minorly. again, i notice, that i already adapted my technique to play the d string louder. maybe its the way this special model resonates, maybe i am overly picky...

I raised up the action a bit because I play with both my fingers and a pick depending on the song. Whether I am using either or, If i hit a note with some passion behind it on the d string or throughout the neck I get a vibration type buzz from the neck to the body of the bass. Is it tempermental Id say so. I am going to upgrade to a LEO QUAN BAD A**2 BASS BRIDGE and see what this does....If the same still occurrs, I may buy a moses Graphite neck !! They sell several Fender style bass necks that have been given the seal of approval from Fender. The price was great, but I too am picky and I can say I have champagne taste with a beer mans wallet.

hossmann, was you reply about buzz (I dont have that problem) or is it also connected to a less-loud-d-string on a jaguar bass?

You can feel a vibration throughout the entire bass, its hollow under the pickgaurd under the D&G strings could be why you get a different tone under your D string. ...give it the tap test and you will feel what is solid and what is hollow under your pick gaurd. . I am changing the stock bridge and having a leo quan bad a*s 2 bridge installed and having a neck adjusted to see if this will make a difference. ........The bass has potential..just needs some tweaking.

The neck checked and the action raised. The D string has a different tone and feel and sound no matter what you do. I find it Od and feel this is not how this bass should play. I may want to swap it for a different bass if this can not be fixed. No lemon for me at this stage of the game!!!!

looking (listening) deeper into this, the problem is not a drop in volume but having less low-mids on all positions (even open) on the D string.

i recently bought a jaguar bass. at home it sounded great trhu a small peavey practice amp...., but when i put it thru my ampeg am at a show.... the E and A strings sounded like a locomotive in a thunder storm....the D and G strings were completely non-existant....dead.... UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, i found that the output jack on the bass is STEREO ! WHY IS THIS???. are these pick ups split???? do i need 2 amps? DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY THERE IS A STEREO JACK ON THIS BASS?are they all like this or just mine?....im COMPLETELY boggled !!!

any info would be appreciated ! thanxx
